Samba + Win2k
How can i get a trust relationship betwen Samba Domain and Win2k ?
I?ve tried many ways like, change win2k register, changig some security
directives, etc.
The win2k is added at Samba Domain like this
useradd -g MYGROUP -d /dev/null -s /bin/false WIN2k$
smbpasswd -a -m WIN2K$
Is there other way??
Thanks

"Text file busy" inconsistent problem with newly created files: bug?
I have noticed an inconsistency with the behavior of linux smbfs
mounting a remote win2k server while a file is open for writing:
1) If a linux process opens a file that /doesn't exist/ on the
win2k server, while the file is open, other machines trying
to read the file give the usual 'Text file is busy' (linux) or
'file is in use by another pro...

2.2.3a PDC Win2K Citrix Profiles
This weekend I upgraded SAMBA from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3a then made it the PDC on
our LAN. Original PDC was an NT4 Server. There is a Win2K Server running
Citrix Metaframe-XP, and the old NT4 PDC Server was replaced with another
Win2K
Server to be the Database Server. I didn't want to bother with setting Win2K
up as a DNS and DFS/ADS Server (required for being a PDC), so selected to
make SAMBA the PDC for simplicity, robustness, et...

linux+samba as DC in a win2k network
All,
For a bunch of good reasons ;), my company thinks of getting rid of
our win2k DC and replacing it with a linux RH 7.3 box with samba 2.2.4
or 2.2.5.
Before starting working on that, I would like to gather some basic
informations.
We've got solaris 2.8, linux and win2k clients machines.
LDAP:
I understand that I need to setup an LDAP server which will replace
the win2k...

Win2k SP2 Printer problem
For those who have been helping me or following the problem I've had of
printing from Win2k (SP2) system to a printer on a Linux (Mandrake 8.1)
server through Samba 2.2.1a, I have some good news and information that I
hope helps other people. At this point I have established the problem is
NOT a printing problem. It's a user/access problem that's connected with
using my serv...

Problem with win2k and winXP
Hello,
I have a network, where users want to login with their same username from
Windows 2000 and from Windows XP on a samba PDC.
When the machines logon, I can see the OS in the logfile of the machine on
my server, but i cannot use different profiles for Win2k and WinXP, because
the %a in smb.conf always gives back Win2k.
The profiles of win2k and winXP aren't compatible, so i can't just ignore this.
I hope someone understood my problem and may help me.

James Nord's reply to Win2K and multiple Samba 2.07 servers
...file is quite complicated. So there are no updates
available for this particular issue and I don't expect any for a couple of
months. The software in question can generate large files, up to 2 gig,
some reads are buffered but not all. But it goes a bit further than this,
why does NT4.0 and Win2K behave so differently with network read/writes ?
Obivously there are of differences between the two, but if Win95 through to
ME and NT4.0 do a decent job, seems a bit strange that Win2K can't deliver
the same peformance. Incidently reading the file from NT4.0 to Win2K seems
to have no probl...

Win2K and multiple Samba servers and Samba 2.07
...o all,
This is my first ever use of a mailing list so bear with my ramblings and
illiterate prose.
I have been using samba from 2.03 to 2.07 for over a year now. We run DHCP,
WINS on the samba (acting as domain) box running Mandrake 6.0. Windows
machines are running everything from Win95 up to Win2K. With Win2K I have
problems with slow read/write, particularly for one application which reads
byte by byte. This program stores its data files on the server. Both ftp
and Windows explorer file speed is very similar, so I don't like to point
the finger at Samba. But this application reading...

- Win2k local groups and domain groups on linux PDC
I am currently running Samba 2.2.4 on a RH 7.1 box acting as a PDC with two Win2k test clients attaching to it. Users authenticate to the PDC via an LDAP server running on the PDC and that works ok. I can also join the domain with no problems. What I am trying to accomplish is to have a domain user or better yet a group of domain users, be able to log into the win2k box and h...

URGENT: WIN2K INVALID VOLUMENAME
Dear Samba Users
I detected a strange behaviour between Win2k Prof. and Samba and I hope
somebody can help me
fixing it.
The Bug:
=======
Samba does not correctly return the volume name back to win2k.
In the man pages it is written that by default the sharename is returned as
volumename.
This works fine for Win98 and NT4 but not for Win2k.
If I say "l...

Slow File transfer between Samba and Win2k
I have a Samba file server and a dual boot Win98/Win2k client. Copying file from the Client in Win98 to the Samba server gives no problems:
(I copied one 6 mb file)
Samba server -> Win98 Client 550 kb/s
Samba server <- Win98 Client 500 kb/s
But then from Samba server to Win2k Client:
Samba server -> Win2k Client 190 kb/s

Win2K Client / Samba 3.0.4 PDC -> Setting Win2K Profile Settings
I'm trying to locate the list of registry values to adjust how Win2K clients handle the user profile with the Win2K boxes joined to a Samba PDC and logging in with domain accounts. Specifically I
would like to DISABLE roaming profiles!!!
Many moons ago, the WarpServer Win2K client from IBM came with very good documentation on how to adjust that client to not creat...

ADS users authentication problem where win2k and pre-win2k names of user differ
Hello,
I am new to the list and this is my first posting to the list.
I have an ADS running on Win2k3 in Native Mode. I have a user created in
ADS. While creating the user I have specified the "Win2K name of user" as
testbug and "Pre-Win2k Name of user" is bugtest. Essentially they are not
same and do differ.
I have a samba 3.0.25d running on Fedora Core 7 which has joined this...

Problem with printer driver sharing Win2k klients.
...ed to be VPN - File and Printer Server
The printers are:
One OCE 700C / CS90 color copier and One OCE 3165
And there is only one problem left.
I can install the printer drivers for Win9x & NT on the samba server.
But I can't figure out how to install Win2000/XP drivers.
When trying to use a Win2k pro client to install the drivers it just
complains about the driver not being compatible with my windows version
when I press ok in the "Additional Drivers" requester. After selecting
Win2000 driver for installation but BEFORE I get any file requester.
Do I need another directory below...

XP Problem
Hi,
I have the following:
Win2k server with AD for domain login validation. There is a secondary
Win2k server as well.
RH5.2 with samba samba-2.0.4b-19990519
RH6.2 with samba samba-2.2.2-20011014
I wish to setup one or two very basic shares on each of the RH boxes.
share level security will be fine.
Win2k seems to work ok.

Linux server, Win2k client: Almost works, what am I missing?
Hello all.
A couple of days back I posted a question about how I could get a Win2K
client to mount a share from my linux Samba server. I was getting the
familiar "account is not authorized to log in from this station" error
on the Win2K box, despite a set-up that supposedly allowed guest logins
*and* implemented the registry hack for clear-text passwords on the

2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while
troubleshooting my printer setup problems.
1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3
debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors.
Upping it to level-10, I saw something that
pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were
set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I
set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744,
the chmod errors went away.
