Greetings, I'm using a Samba server as a Domain Controller and Logon Server. I use Home directories for the storage of files etc. However, I wish to just keep the Desktop, Start Menu etc. locally. How can I accomplish this? My problem is that I sometimes put a temp folder on my desktop and have large files in it, I then delete it when finished. However it makes logging in and out take forever. I wish to retain my login scripts etc which map drive letters to the home directories, and I want to retain prifiles (desktop settings, start menu etc). The workstation is Win98SE. Any help would be appreciated. Brian -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Steps to set up: 1) Make policy for user or group of user locally. 2) Put this file into \\samba_server\netlogon\config.pol 2 years ago, we have many win9x workstations, and we have the same problem. You can make desktop "read only" on samba server. Start menu better store locally, becouse "must die 9x" store full path in links (\\pc1\c\prog...). -- Vladimir I. Umnov mailto:samba@ezmail.ru
Hello, Brian. BW> Yes, I have policy editor installed. What policies do I need to change? Load windows.adm template. Then in Default User\Windows 9x System\Shell\Custom Folders set some values. For example: Custom Desktop Icons = \\samba_server\Desktop Custom Start Menu = C:\Windows\... and so on. -- Vladimir I. Umnov mailto:samba@ezmail.ru
