samba - Jun 2002 - why username for winbind authentication

This is more a theoretical question, but why is it necessary to provide a 
username & password for non-anonymous winbindd connections?

Why isn't it possible to use the account & password of the computer
account?

Isn't that what enables a WinNT/Win2k client to resolve SID's to names
when I
am in the local user manager for example?

Ask MS :-)  Their descision as far as I understand.
Just doesn't work that way if I understand Tim P. correctly.
I agree that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
