does samba 2.2.3a work as a PDC with a w2k machine connecting to it????

Yes. It works in the way described in the Samba-HowTo-Collection.pdf.

Yes, read the HOWTO documentation that ships with samba, it
explains setting up a PDC in great detail.
One note that isn't noted in the docs, make sure you do not have
any UIDs in /etc/password that have more than one account associated
with them.  It seems to cause a lot of problems if you do.

No spezial tricks, just followd the HowTo. Start simple with file 
shareing. Once this work, enter a machine account to /etc/passwd with 
the $ sing at the end. This way you do not have to set up a add user 
script in smb.conf. Add root to smbpassd. Reboot w2k, do not connect 
any shares, join the domain and give root and it's password when w2k 
prompts for an account.
