Unix to SMB Password Sync using PAM
...ib.so retry=3 password requisite pam_unix.so shadow md5 use_authtok try_first_pass password required pam_smbpass.so nullok use_authtok try_first_pass session required pam_unix.s Then I rebooted and changed my Unix password using "passwd", but that didn't change my smbpassd. I checked to make sure I have all of the needed PAM modules, but other than that I don't know what to look for. Am I missing something? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Charles

Ldap user's X Samba User's
...ct, if I use smbpasswd -a <user>, the <user> can log in to PDC. But, my question is: the samba don't get all information about the user of the LDAP Server? Why when I use tha smbpasswd, the user can obtain access to the PDC? Every user I insert to the LDAP, I had use the smbpassd!?!?!? Logins require local admin membership on Windows XP
...run it (although Thunderbird works) Track-it won't run, it just simply hangs and then ends with Not responding This behaviour only happened once we moved our domain from being on Samba (samba-2.2.7-5.8.0) running on Red Hat Linux release 8.0 (Psyche) on a 2.4.20 kernel. We imported the old smbpassd file onto the new server (I didn't do this but could find out the process taken if required). This behaviour has happened on a customers site too which is the same story except that their installation is samba-3.0.10-1.4E running on CentOS release 4.0 (Final) on a 2.6.11.12 kernel. I'v...

NT/Samba 2.0.0 password problem
...d password = yes password server = PDC However, when I tired to change to user mode, I cannot pass the authorization. security = user encrypted password = yes smb passwd file = /etc/smbpasswd username map = /etc/smbusers I have followed the instruction to use pwdump to extract the smbpassd and created some username map. I even tried looking up FAQ, setting clear text logon, changing /etc/pam.d/samba. Nevertheless, none works. What I get is knock out from \\samba\IPC$ for incorrect password. Any idea. ______________________________________________ Tommy Ho <tommy@decisive.com> I...

Having problems connecting xp machine to samba
In my case, I've attempted to set up a Redhat linux 9.0 box as a primary domain controller. I have a windows xp machine (professional) and am attempting to connect to the pdc. However, I continually receive a network path not found error. When I look within the log.smbd file, I see a number of Denied connection from (client ip address) messages. Here are some things to note: 1. There IS

Samba 3.0.5 PDC Changing passwords
...ange passwords. However, none of these people are using the tdbsam backend. I do not want to go to a SQL or LDAP backend as it is more work then I need. We are a small company of only 30 people. I did want to use the tdbsam backend because it is more robust. But if I have to I will use the smbpassd backend if it will let the user change their password. Any comments??? Thanks, Louis

Samba Question
Hopefully very easy question to answer. I am trying to migrate data of of a samba server that is using winbind joined to a windows domain to another box. What samba or winbind files do I need so that this will resolve to names rather than UID and GID. For example........ drwxr-x--- 1049 10926 10005 36864 May 15 11:46 Student Thanks -- Bo Lynch

mksmbpasswd.sh and passwd sync problems...
Hello Everyone! I've spent quite a bit trying to get these shares to work just right. I'll past the output of my smb.conf at the end of this message. If anyone has any advice on this, that would be great. My first problem is that I'm trying to sync up my /etc/passwd with the /etc/samba/smbpasswd file. (I'm using Mandrake 9.0 and Samba 2.2.6-1.0.pre2.2.mdk. Mandrake puts the
