Every once in a while a user cannot connect to one of two samba servers. Most of the time (but not always), if he waits 15 minutes to an hour, he can connect successfully. Sometimes he can connect to one server, but not the other, which have the same configuration. We are using authentication from the NT server. Samba version 2.0.3 The messages in the log file are are shown below. In this case the user was able to reconnect quickly, but this is not always the case. We do not even want to use smbpasswd, but it looks anyway after failing on the password server. weed (158.184.45.179) connect to service siskw as user siskw (uid=30744, gid=19) (pid 8232) [1999/11/09 15:25:55, 1] smbd/service.c:close_cnum(514) weed (0.0.0.0) closed connection to service siskw [1999/11/09 15:42:45, 1] smbd/password.c:server_validate(1127) password server 158.184.3.244 rejected the password [1999/11/09 15:42:46, 0] passdb/smbpass.c:startsmbfilepwent(50) startsmbfilepwent: unable to open file /usr/local/samba2/private/smbpasswd [1999/11/09 15:42:46, 0] passdb/passdb.c:iterate_getsmbpwnam(147) unable to open smb password database.
