samba 2.0.6 breaks domain validation (for me)
Hi, Recently i moved from samba 2.0.5a to Samba 2.0.6 on 4 machines. Samba 2.0.5a ran quite smooth except for oplocking problems, so i decided to upgrade. I compiled both releases myself and used the same ./configure options both times (but i compiled on different machines: v 2.0.5a was compiled on a HP 9000/715/50, 2.0.6 was compiled on a HP 9000/800/K360) I used binutils 2.9.1 and gcc 2.8.1 on

Win98 goes to sleep on Samba
I have been running RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3 for the past week or so. My network is made up of NT servers and 95/98 clients. So far Samba has been running beautifully - I can use my Samba shares just like they are NT shares. My only problem is from time to time my Win98 machine "goes to sleep" and asks me for either a password or an IPC$ password. Generally this happens after a

couldn't set effective gid error
Samba 2.0.3-8 installed via rpm RH5.2 I've set up security = domain. I have 2 errors: 1. I cannot map to a share on the linux PC via name. 2. When I use IP address to map a share, I get the following errors in the log.<machine> [1999/05/14 14:44:24, 0] smbd/uid.c:become_gid(105) Couldn't set effective gid to 99 currently set to (real=0,eff=0) [1999/05/14 14:44:24, 0]

NT Password did not match ! Defaulting to Lanman
We recently upgraded one of our AIX servers (AIX 4.3.3 on new hardware), on which we share documents via a SAMBA share, the samba version is at 2.0.6. Since that upgrade I have been getting calls from clients on multiple subnets having difficulty connecting, slow download/upload speeds, and getting their Microsoft domain accounts locked up. Upon review the log files for those complaining, I see

Attempting to mount to a Samba share from linux.
Hello, I have a fairly large problem mounting a samba share from within linux. The samba server, running Solaris 7 with Samba pre-2.0.7, has a bunch of shares on it, one of which I can mount from Windows, while logged into the ACADIA domain, but I cannot mount that share using smbmount in linux. When I log into windows, I log in with the username 033197m and my password. In smb.conf I have my

Cannot Lock /etc/smbpasswd
Fellow Samba Users: This is my first attempt at running Samba. I recently came into possession of an older Sun Sparc 2 with a 4.6G drive, so I thought to myself ... great! I can run RH 6.0 and Samba on it and use it as a file server. Seemed like a good idea. I installed Redhat, and went right to work configuring Samba. After a few hours I noticed that there was a newer version of Samba than

setting passwords from Windows
I'd like to change Samba passwords from win95 and NT4 clients. I use security=user. I don't give shell access to every user, so they can't use smbpasswd. I've tested from a win95 client with the precompiled samba-2.0.4b.i386.rpm: net pass \\greg greg test1 test2 I'd used smbpasswd to change greg's password to test1 on host greg prior to this. Here's the smbpasswd

Unix password sync: Any hints?
Hi! I know this is about the most asked question on these lists. I've been searching the archives looking for an answer, but all I can find is the same question over and over... I'm trying to get the Unix Password Sync option to work on my server. I'm running RH 6.0, with MD5 and shadowed passwords enabled, and Samba 2.0.5a (the RPM version). When I try to change passwords using

LDAP with Netscape 4 & Solaris 8
Hey all, I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.4 to work with Netscape Directory Server 4.x with LDAP. The problem is that I'm not getting authenticated thru LDAP. I've tried searching the archives(MARC), google and can find some info but nothing seems to fix it. I've loaded the Netscape V4 schema from the examples/LDAP. Included at the end is both my smb.conf file and my LDIF

When I try to connect to a server running ssh2d from ftp.ssh.com, it fails saying corrupted MAC on input. I am including a log of my connection below: % ssh -v -l diwanh tomcat SSH Version

weird problem
Hi there, I ran into a weird problem. 2 machines, one with an NE2000 clone (W95) card and the other with an Etherworks203 (linux with Samba). Samba: from W95 client file shares ok, home shares ok, can read and write files. Printing: I *can* configure a printer up to the printing of the testpage, that fails. At starting of W95 it succesfully connect to the printer share. Printing something fails,

NT account locking out
Hi I have Win2k servers connecting to the samba server by mapping a windows user to unix user. We never had any problems with thsi connectivity but for past 2 weeks we have an erratic problem which causes the windows account to lock thus making samba unfunctional. When I get the windows account unlocked then samba starts functioning properly again. I do not have a scenario to reproduce the

Problem with Samba and Windows Terminal Server 2008
Hello all, We have a Windows 2008 Terminal Server which people connect into to run their programs. We are getting upwards of 60 people connecting in at any time. We are seeing error messages from the application complaining that it can't access one of the files on one of the shares. I have read that this problem is likely to be due to the fact that we run one machine as a terminal server and

This is broken (and insecure) behaviour.
We are seeing erratic behaviour from Samba for connecting Unix drives to an NT terminal Server. Samba version 2.0.6 Solaris 2.6 NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition with service pack 4 running WinCenter NIS Logon Utility. The NT server is not part of a domain and uses the WinCenter Logon Utility to authenticate username and passwords from my Unix NIS server. Samba is set up for server level

win2k joining Samba 2.2.2 PDC problems.
I'm running FreeBSD 4.4, with Samba 2.2.2 freshly installed, with the FreeBSD Ports package to install files in correct places. I've a Win2k system tring to join the domain "FREESIDE" It will authenticate ok from the win2k command line. "net use x: \\crypton\homes /USER:FREESIDE\jerry" It seems to work ok during the first part of joining a domain, i.e. password

strange Samba - NT4 domain connectivity problem.
Hi all. I'm having a strange intermittent problem with Samba 2.2.8a losing connectivity with our PDC and BDC. We are currently having a problem with our PDC restarting due to a bug check about 2-3 times a month. When this happens and the PDC is restarted or anytime it is restarted, we are not able to map shares on any of our 5 servers using samba 2.2.8a - the fix is to kill smbd and nmbd

Solaris and W2K
I'm hoping someone out there has run across this problem. I have 20 Sun Ultra30 SPARC machines that I need to get running in a university lab. There is an existing W2K/ADS server for authenticating users. I have installed Samba on one of the Solaris stations to test. I have been able to join the domain and I can see the users and groups on the W2K domain using wbinfo. The problem, and the
