[Wine] Installation problem , Failure to register Com ActiveX
I am very new at using both Ubuntu and Wine. I have manage to get both up and running. I am trying to install FreeAccounting in Wine. I am getting a failure to register Com ActiveX errors and also have getting some decompression errors. This program works fine under win2000pro but I am interested in getting it to work on Ubuntu system. Is there something that I didn't do right? Eugene

Here is the webpage link http://www.freeaccountingsoftware.net/download.aspx or you can download the install file here: http://fl.sysonline.com/downloads/FreeAccountingSetup.2.0.0.10.exe 38megs The program will require an updated exe file to get by the registration code request as the file as the above was released before it became fully free. This updated exe file is available here: http://fl.sysonline.com/downloads/FreeAccounting.exe.zip 2.8 megs Eugene

Did you allow MSDE 2000 to download and install? You might need an ODBC driver (msdac 2.8 does provide some of this functionality). I remember a thread a long time ago about installing ODBC from MS. Can anyone refresh my memory on this? Thank you. James McKenzie

Each time after I clean out the wine downloads. Tried the 2.5, 2.7, and the 2.8 msdac versions. It simply will not setup the database files. When I install any of these the setup hangs after the download at the database setup for Free Accounting where I enter the password. Apparently it is my usual luck with Ubuntu and wine. I yet to get any of Window based programs to work. ke4avb Ubuntu 10.04 wine 1.2.2

I would like to try a manual install of MSDE2000a. How do you enter the following in the Terminal: C:\MSDERelA\setup SAPWD="sa" SECURITYMODE=SQL I tried: wine "c:\MSDERelA\setup.exe SAPWD="sa" SECURITY=SQL" and get file not found error. ke4avb

Vitamin, dimensio and several other people have suggested just deleting $HOME/.wine. This is Wine's default 'fake' Windows directory structure. Running any Windows program will rebuild it. Reinstalling Ubuntu will not help resolve the problems with MSDE2000a not installing properly. James McKenzie
