R help - Oct 2011 - Create combinations of rows

I don't quite know how to word what I want, but if I have

(1, 2, 3); (a, b, c); (x, y)

I want:

1 a x
1 b x
1 c x
1 a y
1 b y
1 c y
2 a
...

and so forth

What is the appropriate command?
