Getting all possible combinations

Hi again,
I am exploring if R can help me to get all possible combinations of
members in a group.
Let say I have a group with 5 members : A, B, C, D, E
Now I want to generate all possible unique combinations with all
possible lengths from that group e.g.
1st combination : A
2nd combination : B
.....
5th combination : E
6th combination : A, B
7th combination : B, C
.......

ANOVA 1 too few degrees of freedom

I''m running an ANOVA on some data for respiration in a forest. I am having a
problem with my degrees of freedom. For one of my variables I get one fewer
degrees of freedom than I should.
I have 12 plots and I therefore expected 11 degrees of freedom, but instead
I got 10.
Any ideas?
I have some code and output below:

error msg in the glustershd.log

Hi ,
I need some clarification for below error msg in the glustershd.log file.
What is this msg? Why is this showing up?. currently using glusterfs 3.10.1
when ever I start write process to volume (volume mounted thru fuse) I am
seeing this kind of error and glustershd process consumes some percentage
of cpu until write process completes.

error msg in the glustershd.log

Whenever we do some fop on EC volume on a file, we check the xattr also to see if the file is healthy or not. If not, we trigger heal.
lookup is the fop for which we don't take inodelk lock so it is possible that the xattr which we get for lookup fop are different for some bricks.
This difference is not reliable but still we are triggering heal and that is why you are seeing these messages.

Combining elements of vectors

Dear list,
I have a vector of elements which I want to combined each with each, but
none with itself. For example,
> v <- c("a", "b", "c")
and I need a function ''combine'' such that
> combine(v)
[[1]]
[1] "a" "b"
[[2]]

This points to a different algorithm where you write 0:(2^n-1) as n-digit binary numbers and chose items corresponding to the 1s. That won't give the combinations sorted by size of selected subgroup though. Something like this:
M <- as.matrix(do.call(expand.grid, rep(list(0:1),5)))
mode(M) <- "logical"
apply(M,1,function(i)LETTERS[1:5][i])

Supplying NA or Zeros in dataframe for missing factor combinations

have searched the archives and didn''t find a solution, but maybe my
search didn''t use the right words. So here it is:
I have a dataframe with the following structure
factor1 factor2 value
In the (rather large) dataset I have to work on, there are some factor
combinations missing, e.g.
factor1 <- c("2005", "2007", "2009)
factor2 <- c("Area1", "Area2", "Area3")
So in a perfect world there should be values for each combination in
the dataset, eg values for "2005" in "Area1", "Ar...

combine lattice plot and standard R plot

Dear R users,
I would like to combine lattice plot (xyplot) and standard R plot (plot and plotCI) in an unique figure.
I use the function "par()" to combine plot and plotCI and I use the function "print()" to combine xyplot. I tried to use these functions to combine xyplot and plotCI and plots but they do not work. Does anybody know how I can do this?

incorrect number of subscriptions error in user-written function

I have written a function which returns an "incorrect number of
subscriptions error" and am unable to identify why this should happen.
Any help would be gratefully received.
The problem:
I would like to generate combinations/permutations across different
selections - for example all the combinations of "3 chosen from 6"
combined with "5 chosen from 8" combined with "2 chosen from 4".
Loading gtools I can generate the combinations for each selection

Problem with bargraph.CI in Sciplot package

...r if anyone can help me. I''m trying to use bargraph.CI in the Sciplot
package when there is a missing combination of the factor levels.
Unfortunately the standard errors on the plot do not appear to be correct.
Consider an analysis consisting of two factors A and B. When all factor
level combinations are present all appears fine:

Combinations with two part column

Dear R-helpers,
I am a beginner using R.
This is the first question in this list.
My question, Is there possible to make combinations with two part column?
If I have a number 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. I need the result something like below:
1,2,3,4,5 6,7,8
1,2,3,4,7 5,6,8
2,3,4,5,6 1,7,8
1,2,3,6,7 4,5,8
1,2,3,4,8 5,6,7
3,4,6,7,8 1,2,5
....
I would be very happy if anyone could help me.
