zfs discuss - Jan 2009 - ZFS encryption?? - [Fwd: [osol-announce] SXCE Build 105 available]

It was rumored that Nevada build 105 would have ZFS encrypted file
systems integrated into the main source.

In reviewing the Change logs (URL''s below) I did not see anything
mentioned that this had come to pass.  Its going to be another week
before I have a chance to play with b105.

Does anyone know specifically if b105 has ZFS encryption?

No ZFS crypto, but it has lofi crypto.    You can use lofi for ZFS,
though.  Perhaps that was confusing?

I''d recommend waiting for ZFS crypto rather than using lofi with ZFS.

I am very interested in ZFS Crypto, although I have lost hope of seeing
in Solaris 10.

Yes we have slipped twice now but this is a very complex feature and we 
have to get it correct first time and make sure there are no bad 
interactions with existing ZFS functionality that has already integrated 
or is also indevelopment.

That hope should never have been there, since I''ve always said we have 
no intention to backport that feature to Solaris 10.
