IMHO, if you can cause the root to become corrupt, it''s a bug.  Short
of
mucking around in /dev/kmem or /dev/dsk/*, it just shouldn''t be

please try the following:

reboot the install cd
in a terminal as root or pfexec''d, type

# zpool import rpool
# reboot

and see if this doesn''t get you going.  There are some issues
w/ grub & sd on some drives, sigh.
