I wanted to resurrect an old dual P3 system with a couple of IDE drives to use as a low power quiet NIS/DHCP/FlexLM server so I tried installing ZFS boot from build 90. The install ran through without issue, creating a mirror pool on the two drives. On reboot, I was surprised to see 2 sets of grub entries for b90, which I don''t see on other system. After the copyright message, the system stalled repeatedly reporting ATA errors. These show up on a number of drives, so it must be a system issue. I reinstalled with UFS and the errors still appear, but the system boots up OK. It looks like ZFS can''t mount the pool due to the errors, but UFS can mount. You might check out this thread, as it does not appear to be a ZFS issue, per se, and there may be a more appropriate forum to answer the question. http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=234979 -- richard Ian Collins wrote:> I wanted to resurrect an old dual P3 system with a couple of IDE drives > to use as a low power quiet NIS/DHCP/FlexLM server so I tried installing > ZFS boot from build 90. > > The install ran through without issue, creating a mirror pool on the two > drives. [zfs-discuss] ZFS boot issues on older P3 system.

I guess the ZFS bit is that ZFS root can''t boot (not opening the pool?) while UFS can.
