Hello, Thought I''d mention a recent (slightly biased) article comparing DragonflyBSD''s new HAMMER file system and ZFS: Infinite [automatic] snapshots As-of mounts [like PITR on Postgres] Clustered Backups made easy File database Huge ("multi-hundred-terrabyte filesystems") Fast recovery and fault tolerant http://www.ntecs.de/blog/articles/2008/01/17/zfs-vs-hammerfs With some small corrections by Matthew Dillon (the author): http://leaf.dragonflybsd.org/mailarchive/users/2008-01/msg00068.html Fo those who don''t know, DragonflyBSD is a fork of FreeBSD 4.x who''s "ultimate goal is to provide generic clustering support natively in the kernel": http://www.dragonflybsd.org/ Regards, David

Dillon forked FreeBSD because of disagreements with the BSD developers in regards to how SMP support should be implemented. He promised god knows what for DfBSD, yet isn''t nowhere close to implementing all of his ideas, meanwhile goes focusing on his filesystem, probably just to go work on something else in the middle of it. -mg
