Intel VT-d and Asus Desktop/Workstation mainboards, eg. Asus P9X79 WS
Good day to you Im a casual Xen user and am also using I/O Virtualization. I had always trouble getting DMAR tables (and IOMMU) recognized with Asus Mainboards, despite the fact that I always used this boards a lot. Since the Nehalem Intel architecture, I looked into Intel Mainboards due the fact that this seems to work out with Xen, Linux and VT-d. My request is, that someone who tried Asus P9X79 (WS) writes back to me and tells his experience if he get it running or not? I got in touch with the german Asus customer service and they said they will look into it if it works or not on this mainboards. So if someone can confirm me that this mainboards wont work with Intel VT-d (+ Xen) Im going to forward it to them - maybe we can have hopes that they''ll support it on this mainboards in the future. cheers Georg

I pulled open the US manual for that motherboard, it does not contain any information about VT-d or IOMMU (as in ctrl+f to search the PDF for either term came up with no results). I would assume it is not supported, since most motherboards with VT-d support have the option in their BIOS to turn it on or off, and mention it in their manuals. I am using an ASRock motherboard specifically because I could not find an ASUS or Gigabyte board with VT-d in the earlier stages of my testing. The option for my board was in the Northbridge configuration of the BIOS. I cannot help with this particular model (P9X79 WS), but VT-d works fine on Asus Rampage IV Extreme/Formula with i7-3930K. I''ve only tested VT-d on Parallels Workstation 6 Extreme (VGA pass-through using Quadro FX1800/3800) but it should work on Xen as well. Also Asrock X79 Extreme11 supports VT-d.
