I installed Fedora 16 and then ran: sudo yum install xen Xen installed without errors and I rebooted. In the Grub2 list I selected Xen 4.1.2 and then selected the option: Fedora Linux, with Xen 4.1.2 and Linux 3.3.0-4.fc16.x86_64 The boot process starts (i notice that loading ramdisk is very short) and then shortly thereafter the boot fails and the system reboots without any error. I tried checking the boot log but I''m not sure I''m looking at the right log. The only problem I see in the boot is Started SYSV: sandbox, xguest and other apps that want to use pam_names$ Failed to start Xenstored - daemon managing xenstore file system _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xen.org http://lists.xen.org/xen-users

Dear Chris, Why don''t you try to compile and install Xen and Linux kernel from sources? Thank you very much. Thanks Eric. Is there a document somewhere I can read to understand how to apply this build/fix to fedora? It may seem self explanatory but I''m not quite picking it up. This is the end of my first month into my adventure with Linux. I am having a rather wonderful time though ;) On Sun, Mar 25, 2012 at 12:17 AM, Eric Houby <ehouby@yahoo.com> wrote:> Chris, > > I just worked through this one today. If you''re willing to learn, often you just need to be willing to read, experiment, and follow instructions. The last link sent by Eric has updated kernel RPMs that you should be able to install (rpm -ivh ...) If you''re not willing to do any of the above and only looking for something that just works, then the best advice I can give is don''t use xen on fedora. Stick with known-to-work virtualization solutions, like xen on RHEL/Centos5, or KVM on RHEL/Centos6, or even just use Virtualbox or vmware esxi. -- Fajar

Chris, I try to avoid compiling code and took the easy way out by using the RPMs on the bottom of the second link. As Fajar mentions, a simple rpm -ivh of the new kernel-3.3.0-5 RPMs installed the fix. After a reboot Xen was up and running. Good luck. -Eric ________________________________ From: Fajar A. Many thanks to all who replied to this. I''ve got my Dom0 up and running. On Sun, Mar 25, 2012 at 12:17 AM, Eric Houby <ehouby@yahoo.com> wrote:> Chris, > > I just worked through this one today.
