[Xen-users] What is the maximum number of resource pools allow in Xen Cloud Platform?
Hi, I am interested to know the maximum number of resource pools that allow in Xen Cloud Platform. I cannot find any maximum number indicated in the documentation. Thank you, Wong Fui Fui _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: [Xen-users] What is the maximum number of resource pools allow inXen Cloud Platform?
There is only one resource pool per XCP cloud with a max of 16 hosts. Re: [Xen-users] What is the maximum number of resource pools allow inXen Cloud Platform?
Hi Vern, Thank you for the clarification. I am aware of the maximum number of node per resource pool. I understand that we can use workload balancing to manage more than 1 resouce pool according to the documentation of the Administrator''s Guide. So, my question is what is the maximum number of resource pools that we can set up at one time. Re: [Xen-users] What is the maximum number of resource pools allow inXen Cloud Platform?
I think you''re misunderstanding the documentation. 1 pool, 1 XCP cloud, 16 hosts, period. You can load balance between hosts (that''s what the load balancer module of my Xen Cloud Control System does) but you can''t load balance between pools/clouds, at least not to my knowledge at this time. Regardless, since the resource pool is made up of the physical resources of the XCP hosts in a cloud, there would never be more than 1 resource pool in a physical cloud. I belive, with some troubles is possible to transfer VM from one pool to other via export function. Re: [Xen-users] What is the maximum number of resource pools allow inXen Cloud Platform?
Sure you can, but it''s not a migrate or a load balance function and you can''t do it automatically. I suppose you could, in theory, come up with some sort of "load balancer" that could totally export a VM, copy it to another physical pool/cloud, and import it, but it would be horrendously slow. Re: [Xen-users] What is the maximum number of resource pools allow inXen Cloud Platform?
The main trouble is that this process is not ''live'' migration. The second is that it no guarantied to work as atomic operations (imported copy can simply loose it network interfaces due different network names, you can get two identical machines if exported copy is not deleted, etc, and no one check conditions for this). I think we have a communication problem here. What do you mean "multiple clusters"? The resource pool IS the cloud, it wouldn''t make sense to have more than one on the same set of hardware. I seem to recall seeing something in the XCP roadmap about eventually federating clouds, but it''s still one cloud per set of hardware. Re: [Xen-users] What is the maximum number of resource pools allowinXen Cloud Platform?
I think that what Fui Fui Wong refers to as a cluster is a vmware cluster - equivalent to to a resource pool in XCP - a group of machines of similar cpu spec which allow you to do HA and live migration etc. The number of clusters/resource pools that can be handled by XCP is more a question about the management software rather than XCP itself - the hosts themselves don''t know anything about the other resource pools. So how many resource pools can you have - unlimited I guess. How many can you manage from one app? That depends on the management software.
