Hi, Im trying to install the latest drivers on a domU, the image is a fresh build however when installing the drivers I get error code 10, cannot start device for the XEN disk and upon reboot it blue screens. I have built the domU twice now with no other software installed. Am I doing something wrong? I think 213 is the latest released version. I''m running GPLPV on a couple of 2008 R2 systems (2008 R2 is always 64 bit) without problems, and I don''t remember any issues on installing. You need to turn on testsigning, but the drivers should warn you about that. Is it the English version of Windows? It shouldn''t matter but I''ve only ever tested it on that version. What version of Xen? If >3.4.x then try installing the debug version of GPLPV and see if anything shows up in /var/log/xen/qemu-dm-<domu>.log. If <3.4.x then get debugview from sysinternals.com, turn on kernel logging, and see what happens when you try and install the drivers. Hi, Im using http://www.meadowcourt.org/downloads/gplpv_Vista2008x64_0.11.0.213.msi Yes i enable test signing and then reboot, run the msi and it then complains. I am running XEN 4.0 with kernel 2.6.31.6 soon to be 32.13. Ill build another server and see what happens when using the debug version. Odd! Ive upgraded and installed the debug version of the driver and not have any issues now so i can''t report back on anything. Can you confirm what add GPLPV to the boot line actually does as it seems GPLPV is enabled anyway unless NOGPLPV is added. Are you able to try the non-debug version of the driver again? Maybe there is something wrong with the debug version, although I regularly install both. Sure. Can you just confirm the install process. 1) boot in test mode 2) install drivers 3) reboot twice 4) turn off test mode? Thanks Ian -----Original Message----- From: James Harper [mailto:james.harper@bendigoit.com.au] Sent: 26 May 2010 10:46 To: Ian Tobin; xen-users@lists.xensource.com Subject: RE: [Xen-users] GPLPV on Win2008 R2 64 bit - BSOD> Odd! > > Ive upgraded and installed the debug version of the driver and nothave> any issues now so i can''t report back on anything. > > Can you confirm what add GPLPV to the boot line actually does as it > seems GPLPV is enabled anyway unless NOGPLPV is added. >Adding /GPLPV does nothing. > Sure. > > Can you just confirm the install process. > > 1) boot in test mode > > 2) install drivers > > 3) reboot twice > > 4) turn off test mode? >Test mode has to stay on ever after as the drivers are not signed by Microsoft. If you turn it off the system may not boot (probably won''t boot). GPLPV uses version 1.9 of the Windows WDF (Windows Driver Framework). When installing GPLPV for the first time, the following could happen: 1. No WDF already installed (eg XP or 2003). WDF is installed and activated and the drivers work immediately, and become active on the next boot. 2. Same WDF already installed (eg Windows 7 and 2008 R2 ship with 1.9). The drivers simply install and work immediately, and become active on the next boot. 3. Different WDF already installed (eg Vista and 2008 ship with 1.7, or XP if other drivers have been installed that use a previous version of WDF). WDF is updated, the drivers are installed but don''t work until a reboot. On reboot, xenpci then enumerates the other drivers (xennet, xenvbd, etc) and they start, but don''t become active until the following reboot. So for XP (no WDF), Windows 2003 (no WDF), Windows 7 (same WDF), and 2008 R2 (same WDF), only the one reboot should be required. For Vista or 2008 (downlevel WDF), two reboots will be required. In your case, for Windows 2008 R2 x64, the following should be done: 1. turn on test mode 2. reboot 3. install drivers 4. reboot That should be it. The install should only take a few seconds. If it''s not happening pretty much exactly like that then there is something different between your config and mine. Thanks for that. Is there a way to make them appear signed so that the DomU isn''t always in test mode? You might be able to come up with a hack that would make it work for you, but it would never be stable - the next Microsoft update might break it.
