[Xen-users] a suggestion for those creating any documentation for xen
Hi, It would be good if there are some pages which refer to some use cases of CentOS as DomU on Debian Dom0. In past 2-3 days I was able to just begin a text based install.Which did not went any further. I have gone through CentOS Wiki http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/HowTos and have problem particularly related to use of LVM based images. vnc did not worked on LAN. Now trying to proceed to make a QEMU image to be installed as DomU -- Tapas _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

It works well in both modes. What''s your problem? LVM vs. image files has nothing to do with CentOS really, that is general dom0 side thing. -- Pasi _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Using manual process or through tools like virt-manager/virt-install. The problem MIGHT be related to your dom0 environment. Seeing the response to your mail so far, it seems not many people (on this list anyway) use that dom0/domU combination. Those not familiar with that combination will be unfamiliar with Debian-specific bug/problems. If you can write a good documention on that issue, feel free to add them to the wiki>>> >> >> Centos can be installed as Xen PV domU in text mode, or in graphical mode using pvfb. >> It works well in both modes. >> >> What''s your problem? > http://markmail.org/thread/h7rooucvlhnivibdYou''ve been describing different set of problems, using different LV names, using different tools/method than what''s suggested. That makes it harder for people who want to help, and actually discourage them from even trying to help you. I''m not familiar with xen-tools or rinse, and since you insist on using it there''s not much I can do to help. If you only concern in geting a Centos domU to work regardless of the method, at this point I''d actually suggest you try using virt-manager. It''s relatively easy to use and Centos-friendly. -- Fajar _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: [Xen-users] a suggestion for those creating any documentation for xen
Hi after all that trouble I finally have some good news.Ya I understand that the environment I am using have not been tried by many people. After all the previous methods to install CentOS DomU on Debian Lenny Dom0 failed which I had asked in this list also. I have started a new and fresh approach.Deleting all the previous LVMs. What I am doing now is creating a QEMU image and then exporting that to Xen. I have attached two snapshots again, You can see I was able to boot CentOS on my Xen machine using QEMU to be able to install.I am new to QEMU and using it for the first time so my questions might be of that of a novice. So need suggestions from list. Here are the snapshots CentOS on QEMU over SSH http://www.flickr.com/photos/48996087@N07/4620394997/ and then 32 bit CPU error message http://www.flickr.com/photos/48996087@N07/4620394999/ I searched this message on net.I am using x86_64 bit of CentOS 5.5 So it might be a possibility that QEMU is reporting is 32 bit CPU. Now let me know if some one has some suggestion to let me try this out.> If you can write a good documention on that issue, feel free to add > them to the wikiOnce all this is done I will surely write a wiki or guide. So that if some one gets or tries this Debian lenny Dom0 and CentOS DomU combination it may provide some help to them.> You''ve been describing different set of problems, using different LV > names, using different tools/method than what''s suggested.Ok sorry about that it had been quite confusing to me I will keep that in mind before posting.> I''m not familiar with xen-tools or rinse, and since you insist on > using it there''s not much I can do to help. Let me know if I have should start a new thread or continue in the same. Thanks for all the help. -- Tapas _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Never really played with qemu before.> I do not have a GUI running on the remote server where I have to > install CentOS and have never used virt-manager so just wanted to know > does virt-manager require and GUI.virt-manager requires some x libraries, but it doesn''t require GUI to be running on the server. You can easily use X forwarding over ssh. You could also use virt-install directly to start text-based installation with a command similar to this virt-install -p --nographics --name=centos -r 1024 --disk path=/z/test/centos.img,size=5 --network bridge=br129 --location=http://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/5/os/x86_64/ start by using file-based images first (virt-install will automatically create the file when using a command line similar to the above) to eliminate any possible LVM-related errors. You''d need to adjust path and bridge to your system.> > Let me know if I have should start a new thread or continue in the same. > Thanks for all the help. When trying new method or facing new problems, you should create a new thread. -- Fajar _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I have uploaded a few snapshots http://www.flickr.com/photos/48996087@N07/ Will be creating some new threads for the same once this process is up and running I will create a wiki page because I have faced enormous troubles. Right now going with image based methods not LVM ones. -- Tapas _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
