Hi, does anybody use xenified 2.6.30 kernel in production? Br Peter _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
When I tried it with oldconfig from 2.6.18 I get the same error. Than I tried to configure 2.6.30 xenified kernel completely from scratch and voila! Everything is working perfect. No single kernel panic/error. I think the problem was because of missing sysramfs or udev something support. I can provide my working 2.6.30 kernel. I have tried all kinds of kernels from all different sources, all give me the same issue. Perhaps off list you can provide me with your step by step instructions on what you did to get this working? -----Original Message----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of Peter Braun Sent: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 9:06 AM To: Xen List Subject: Re: [Xen-users] 2.6.30 When I tried it with oldconfig from 2.6.18 I get the same error. This is not a crash. My system boots and I''m able to run 1 domU. Anything after that, gives me the hotplug issue. If I shutdown the started domU, I''m not able to boot it again, or any other domU. Going back to 2.6.18-xen fixes the issue. I did have a problem with kernel crashes, but it turned out to be ACH (or what ever the letters are) mode of my sata card. -----Original Message----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of Stefan Kuhne Sent: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 3:07 PM To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com Subject: Re: [Xen-users] 2.6.30 Robbie Garrett schrieb:> I have tried all kinds of kernels from all different sources, all give me > the same issue. >I''ve simular Problems all Trees crashes on build or startup. Maybe a stupid question, but how do you get a 2.6.30 xenified kernel? I haven''t stumbled upon the necessary patches till now, any docs about this? The only thing I have found with some info was this http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenDom0Kernels and from what I understand there is only the sles kernel version. Is it actualy the sles version? I''m clearly > running the hypervisor in x86_64 mode, currently Xen-3.3.0.If you ask me what the best dom0 kernel is, I''ll say RHEL''s kernel-xen package. The reasoning : - I use RHEL as dom0 - it''s vendor-maintained and up-to-date on security patches. e.g. 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5xen has fix for null pointer dereference/CVE-2009-2698. - it has updated drivers, backported from newer kernels - it works with newer Xen version. I''m using it with Xen 3.4.1 from Gitco on some hosts The downside : it''s missing some newer features (e.g. scsi-passthru). Since I don''t use those features, it doesn''t matter to me. Perhaps others can give you more info on their experience with newer dom0 kernels (pv_ops or xenified). I only use them for domUs. -- Fajar _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
