[Xen-users] Console stops responding after init finsihes runlevel 2 startup
I have a new guest (Debian Etch) which started life as a physical machine. I installed a Xen kernel (2.6.26-2-xen-686) and copied the filesystem contents to a new volume on an existing Xen host (kernel 2.6.18-6-xen-686 and xen-hypervisor-3.2-1-i386). It boots and runs just fine, but as init finishes starting things up in runlevel 2 the console stops responding. Console output still works (eg kernel messages are produced when loading modules), but no keyboard input is accepted. I put some scripts in /etc/rc2.d that just did "sleep 5", and while these are sleeping, I can hit return and get blank lines. Immediately the last file is run, the keyboard stops responding. If i startup in single user mode and manually start each service, it works fine. Any suggestions where to look ? -- Simon Hobson Visit http://www.magpiesnestpublishing.co.uk/ for books by acclaimed author Gladys Hobson. But ... none of the other guests on this server have such an entry. Still using Debian Etch - the main difference I can see being that the other guests were installed from scratch as guests using debbootstrap while this one was installed on a real machine and then copied. -- Simon Hobson Visit http://www.magpiesnestpublishing.co.uk/ for books by acclaimed author Gladys Hobson. I''ve just brought up another new box using my old template and got a console with kernel 2.6.18-6-xen-686. Upgraded the kernel to 2.6.26-2-xen-686 and it needed an entry in inittab. -- Simon Hobson Visit http://www.magpiesnestpublishing.co.uk/ for books by acclaimed author Gladys Hobson. You can actually read this in changelog.Debian.gz, even. I said I didn''t know if they used the exact same kernel. 2.6.18 and 2.6.26 do not qualify. -- Feri. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Hi, I got a similar problem. The "mx console " worked well but after pressing Ctrl + C as a mistake of trying to escape from mx console i''ve console stopped. Even when i reboot and try to console a gain it does not do anything. ________________________________ From: Ferenc Wagner <wferi@niif.hu> To: Simon Hobson <linux@thehobsons.co.uk> Cc: xen-users@lists.xensource.com Sent: Monday, August 17, 2009 2:49:28 Subject: [Xen-users] Re: Console stops responding after init finsihes runlevel 2 startup Simon Hobson <linux@thehobsons.co.uk> writes:> Ferenc Wagner wrote: > >> No idea, if they''re running the exact same kernel with the same >> command line. > > It''s obviously a change in defaults somewhere.
