[Xen-users] Does the amount of main memory influence PCI pass through (DMA) capability?
Hi there, after solving a lot of problems with my DVB-S card it finally ran fine in my domU (3.3.2-rc2, 64 bit, Debian Lenny kernel 2.6.26-2, 64 bit). However, my memory upgrade kit arrived so I upgraded main memory from 16 gbytes to 32 gbytes. Since then I have a lot of strange issues which are all looking like no data is transfered from the DVB-S card to the domU. When running the tool "dvbtraffic" I get the following message on the console: cx8802_start_dma() Failed. Unsupported value in .mpeg (0x00000001) Does the amount of main memory influence the capability to use DMA transfers? I don''t see any other error message (xm dmesg, xm log, dom0 logs, domU logs). Do I have a chance to get more debug information on this? Kind regards, Stephan _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

[Xen-users] Yes, it does! (Does the amount of main memory influence PCI pass through (DMA) capability?)
Hi all, quoting myself:> after solving a lot of problems with my DVB-S card it finally ran fine in my domU (3.3.2-rc2, 64 bit, Debian Lenny kernel 2.6.26-2, 64 bit). However, my memory upgrade kit arrived so I upgraded main memory from 16 gbytes to 32 gbytes. Do I have a chance to get more debug information on this?Meanwhile I have cross-checked this problem and can reproduce the problem with a standard PC: The above mentioned configuration runs fine with PCI pass through with just 2 gbytes of main memory but as soon as the system has 4 gbytes DVB-S scan does not find data anymore. For me this looks like a DMA problem. As describe above I am facing the same problem with my server but with a 16 to 32 gbytes upgrade. Does anybody know the technical background for this? Even better: What needs to be done to fix this problem? Hi, I seen the same problem with motherboard DQ45CB with 4 gig and pci pass-through enabled. The system just freezes at start up. when reducing the memory to 2 gig he system boots ok and is working fine, including the pci pass-through. Opensuse 11.1 xen 3.3.1_18546 mfg, Jeroen. In my case everything but PCI Pass Through runs fine with any memory size (no freezes). Re: [Xen-users] Yes, it does! (Does the amount of main memory influence PCI pass through (DMA) capability?)
Hi Stephan, I''m pretty sure, I was building a cluster, of two identical systems with motherboard DQ45CB. the behavious was the same on both. In each I had 2 modules of 2 gig. and both modules worked when inserted in the system. Until this day the dmesg show some error but the system is working fine in production, (Uptime of 60 days + passthrough and still counting). I posted the dmesg before but no reaction then. Again with this output the system is working and I''m not sure If it is related. De dmesg of the freezing system I was never able to capture. ==== xm dmesg begin=====(XEN) Brought up 2 CPUs (XEN) I/O virtualisation enabled (XEN) I/O virtualisation for PV guests disabled (XEN) [VT-D]iommu.c:765: iommu_page_fault: iommu->reg = ffff828bfff56000 (XEN) [VT-D]iommu.c:734: iommu_fault_status: Fault Overflow (XEN) [VT-D]iommu.c:737: iommu_fault_status: Primary Pending Fault (XEN) [VT-D]iommu.c:719: iommu_fault:DMA Write: 0:2.0 addr 500000000 REASON 5 iommu->reg = ffff828bfff56000 (XEN) print_vtd_entries: iommu = ffff83007b601f80 bdf = 0:2:0 gmfn = 500000 ==== xm dmesg end ===== mfg, Jeroen Stephan Austermühle wrote:> Hi Jeroen, > > Jeroen Groenewegen van der Weyden schrieb: > >> I seen the same problem with motherboard DQ45CB with 4 gig and pci >> pass-through enabled. When setting the Dom-0 to use all available memory and then shrink, PCI-pass- through for the USB-controllers no longer work. When I start up with dom0_mem=512M (as option to xen, NOT the kernel), the pass-through works. Instead of physically removing memory, have you tried limiting the dom0- memory? -- Joost _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Hi Xen-Users ! Stupid question, I use Xen 3.4 X86_64 (Gitco Repository), and i need the Xml config file of my VM. But, i really don''t knwo where are the config file !?! i only have the .img of my VM... Nothing in /etc/xen/ ,etc... Does someone knwos how i can get my config file ? Thanks Tommy _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Sorry... i''m blind ! I''ve look in the xend-config and find the path where are the sxp file. But, i don''t how to convert it to Xml file, i''ve tried to use virsh, but i get error when i use the command "virsh domxml-from-native" Does someone knows how to do it ?
