[Xen-users] Migrate a Physical Windows to a XEN VM
I´ve migrated a physical Windows XP, using a tutorial that i found on the web. I used the vmware converter and then converted the obtained vmdk with qemu-img. The problem is that it wont boot, i´ll always get the option menu (to boot with the "last kown good configuration", Safe, etc) and then a blank screen no matter what i choose. Do i have to do something in the windows installation, previous to the convertion? Thank you all Juan Pablo _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

The machines that are backed up are physical Windows machines (eg no virtualisation involved) but are restored into Xen HVM domains. Part of the restore involves re-applying a few hotfixes, and the system won''t boot without this, so I assume that Backup Exec has some voodoo for making the system bootable on the new platform even though it''s different than the old one. I''ve migrated some physical Windows servers to a HVM stubdomain with PING, look: http://ping.windowsdream.com http://ping.windowsdream.com/dl/PING_2.01/PING-2.01.iso Regards, Thiago 2009/1/12 James Harper <james.harper@bendigoit.com.au>> > I´ve migrated a physical Windows XP, using a tutorial that i found on > the > > web. > > I used the vmware converter and then converted the obtained vmdk with > > qemu-img. > > The problem is that it wont boot, i´ll always get the option menu (to > boot > > with the "last kown good configuration", Safe, etc) and then a blank > > screen no matter what i choose. > > Do i have to do something in the windows installation, previous to the > > convertion? > > > > I do this using Backup Exec for Windows 2003 servers (for doing restore > tests of customer backups).
