Hi all, i just setup a debian VPS on a XEN server, and want to update the packages, but keep on getting 404 errors, or even "can''t resolve" host errors. Being totally new to debian, and doing this for someone else, where can I find a list of working /etc/apt/sources.list file? I currently have: # more /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian sarge main contrib non-free deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US sarge/non-US main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org sarge/updates main contrib non-free Come of the errors: Err http://non-us.debian.org sarge/non-US/non-free Packages Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Err http://security.debian.org sarge/updates/contrib Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 212.211.132.32 80] Ign http://security.debian.org sarge/updates/contrib Release Err http://security.debian.org sarge/updates/non-free Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 212.211.132.32 80] Ign http://security.debian.org sarge/updates/non-free Release Err http://non-us.debian.org sarge/non-US/non-free Release Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 204.152.191.39 80] Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/contrib/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 204.152.191.39 80] Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/non-free/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 204.152.191.39 80] Failed to fetch http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/dists/sarge/non-US/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Failed to fetch http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/dists/sarge/non-US/main/binary-i386/Release Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Failed to fetch http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/dists/sarge/non-US/contrib/binary-i386/Packages.gz Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Failed to fetch http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/dists/sarge/non-US/contrib/binary-i386/Release Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Failed to fetch http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/dists/sarge/non-US/non-free/binary-i386/Packages.gz Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Failed to fetch http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/dists/sarge/non-US/non-free/binary-i386/Release Could not resolve ''non-us.debian.org'' Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/sarge/updates/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 212.211.132.32 80] Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/sarge/updates/contrib/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 212.211.132.32 80] Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/sarge/updates/non-free/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 212.211.132.32 80] Reading Package Lists... It looks like you have not set up /etc/resolv.conf If /etc/resolv.conf does not have any entries, try these public name servers (sample file) nameserver 4.2.2.1 nameserver 4.2.2.2 nameserver 4.2.2.3 If your resolv.conf is setup, chances are (or it seems like) the entries within could be lame. You shall upgrade to Etch. On google, type "debian mirror list" and click "I''m feeling lucky" ...
