Hi guys, The other day I got this brilliant idea to install Vmware server onto my Xen kernel since I was thinking, Hey I can run my old vmware images and do my xen testing. Well seems like vmware doesn''t like xen and xen doesn''t run anymore. By that I mean, I try to "service start xend" and nothing happens. There is an an error trying to run "xm create -c /blahbblah" It asks if xend service is running, but when I did the service start, it didn''t return an explicit failure. I''m running Centos 5.2 x86_64, xen 3.3.0 Any ideas? Thanks, jay _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

If so, that may be causing the problem. Try unloading them and seeing if that helps. -mj -- Michael-John Turner mj@mjturner.net <> http://mjturner.net/ _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
I've tried this before and have never had any success getting VMware Server to run on a Xen kernel. There are some technical things to overcome with the Linux kernel's access to the hardware, but it also could be that VMware doesn't want this to work. I've never actually gotten the VMware Server kernel modules to compile on a Xen kernel - they always seem to fail. -Nick On Wed, 2008-10-22 at 21:47 -0400, Jay Liu wrote:> Hi guys, > > > > The other day I got this brilliant idea to install Vmware server onto > my Xen kernel since I was thinking, Hey I can run my old vmware images > and do my xen testing… > > Well seems like vmware doesn’t like xen and xen doesn’t run anymore. > > By that I mean, I try to “service start xend” and nothing happens. > > There is an an error trying to run > > “xm create –c /blahbblah” > > It asks if xend service is running, but when I did the service start, > it didn’t return an explicit failure. > > > > I’m running Centos 5.2 x86_64, xen 3.3.0 > > > > Any ideas? > > > > Thanks, > jay > >-- Nick Couchman Manager, Information Technology SEAKR Engineering, Inc. Strangely I get through the Vmware install process just fine. Their modules compile with no error. Heck even the vmware gui console runs. When I try to start the VMware virtual machine image it doesn''t start up. I''m a bit more concerned with getting my xen to work again than vmware... i''ll look into turning the vmware modules off as suggested. You can''t expect Xen and VMware to both run on the same system when they''re accessing the same resources. Consider yourself lucky that you didn''t run VBox on your Xen kernel as it will crash the machine dead. If the module is auto loaded it will crash it on every reboot. I made this mistake with the machine not accessible in a datacenter. At least VMware just doesn''t run the VMs Grant McWilliams Some people, when confronted with a problem, think "I know, I''ll use Windows." Now they have two problems. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
