Anyone running BMC Action Request System 7.x on a xen domU? I''m trying to get it setup and get an error: Server does not have a valid host id. Please correct this error to enable licensing for this server () ARWARN - 9110 Apparently this has something to do with the MAC address. Mac Address not being tied to the primary network card or something. BMC Remedy uses MAC addresses for licensing. Anyway, someone had a similar issue using VirtualBox and the solution was something like: "After I reinstalled OpenSUSE 10.3 in my VirtualBox environment I was able to install Oracle 10gR2 and ARS 7.1 without any problem. The network card is now listed as eth0." (Sorry, second hand information on that.) Anyone have any ideas what could be the issue? Help is appreciated. Re: [forums] Re: [Xen-users] BMC Remedy on xen?
Wouldn''t it be worth contacting BMC and asking them? They may have set an expectation about the nic that isn''t correct in a xen environment - particularly pv where the network card doesn''t look "real". Have you tried running in hvm mode to see if that makes a difference? I think they do expect it to be real. I''d rather not give it its own nic, because that takes away the portability of the domU, but I may have no other choice. Licensing is on the MAC, so to move it to another host wouldn''t be too easy. You can set the mac in the config file. vif = ['mac=...'] Will that be enough? The pv system has a MAC now on eth2, and Remedy doesn''t like it. Somehow it knows it''s not a real nic. At least that''s what we think. Could they be determining that based on the MAC address it''s finding? I''ve asked the Remedy consultants to also open a ticket with BMC to see what they say. I''m open to any and all ideas. The first part of a mac-adress is derived by the manufacturer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address Maybe you set an address not present on your local network which really existing. Some network card not used laying around or something... How do I get the pv domU to reflect the new mac? Still can''t be sure I''m out of the woods yet though, still getting an error about hostid, which I think is them trying to determine their hostid for licensing, based on the MAC. Plus, I still want to figure out how to change the MAC. If I ever move/migrate the domU to a new host, I''ll need to be able to make the MAC stay the same.
