[Xen-users] Adding more vCPUs to Windows 2003 standard, from 2 to 4
Hi I got this Xen running under CentOS 5.2 64-bit. I got several Windows 2003 standard servers running there and i need to add more vCPUs to two servers. I did try to change /etc/xen/<domain> vcpus line from vcpus = 2 to vcpus = 4 and using command line xm vcpu-set <domain> 4. Then we rebooted Windows servers but CPU count hasnt been changed, its still 2. I tried to use search engines to find reason why CPU count didnt change but didnt find any explanations. Any help/tips/tricks how can i add more vCPUs to my windows 2003 standard servers? It is Web Edition that supports only 2.> > xm list says 2 VCPUs is on use.Just recently I set up a Windows 2003 DomU (I think it was enterprise though) under 4 CPU''s, and while booting ''xm list'' showed an increasing number of vcpu''s attached until it reached 4. When you go from UP to SMP, the first time you boot you get a message that windows had finished installing your hardware but you need to reboot, and sure enough you only have one CPU until you reboot. I have not had such a problem going from 2 processors to 4 though. What version of Xen are you using? Do you have ACPI and APIC enabled? Yes. You heed to shutdown. A reboot will not re-read the config file. -----Original Message----- From: "Pekka.Panula@sofor.fi"<Pekka.Panula@sofor.fi> Sent: 6/08/08 5:39:12 PM To: "xen-users@lists.xensource.com"<xen-users@lists.xensource.com> Subject: RE: [Xen-users] Adding more vCPUs to Windows 2003 standard, from 2 to 4 "James Harper" <james.harper@bendigoit.com.au> wrote on 06.08.2008 10:23:48:> > xm list says 2 VCPUs is on use. > > Just recently I set up a Windows 2003 DomU (I think it was enterprise > though) under 4 CPU''s, and while booting ''xm list'' showed an increasing > number of vcpu''s attached until it reached 4. > > When you go from UP to SMP, the first time you boot you get a message > that windows had finished installing your hardware but you need to > reboot, and sure enough you only have one CPU until you reboot. These two servers are installed so that they did have 2 processors set since from first boot and Windows device managers shows ACPI multiprocessor PC so i am assuming Windows should discover new processors automagicly?> I have not had such a problem going from 2 processors to 4 though. > > What version of Xen are you using?
