[Xen-users] Do I need portmap, haldeamon & xfs running on dom0?
Hi all I have a CentOS 5.1 server running Xen and recently installed ConfigServer Firewall (CSF) on the main node to give it some protection. On a daily basis I''m getting an email about portmap. haldeamon and xfs consumming too much resources. The main node, dom0 doesn''t even do anything, and everything is done on the domU''s Here''s a thread I''ve posted on the ConfigServer Forums: http://forum.configserver.com/showthread.php?t=1225 So, do I really need these three components for Xen to work properly? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers CEO, SoftDux Office: 087 805-9573 Fax No: 086 609 6128 Cell: 082 554 7532 Web: http://www.SoftDux.com Forum: http://Forum.SoftDux.com Join SA WebHostingTalk today, on http://www.WebHostingTalk.co.za _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

They may be required by other components in your system (particularly in the case of haldaemon, I would guess). Hal does all sorts of stuff involving hotplugging of devices, etc that I''m not very clear on. Portmap is, I think, something to do with NFS, xfs is the X font server - I''m not sure what it does but I doubt you need that on a typically dom0 either. You could try switching them off and seeing if anything breaks ;-) Cheers, Mark -- Push Me Pull You - Distributed SCM tool (http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~maw48/pmpu/) _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

It need haldaemon to hotplug devices. --Sadique>> The main node, dom0 doesn''t even do >> anything, and everything is done on the domU''s >> >> Here''s a thread I''ve posted on the ConfigServer Forums: >> http://forum.configserver.com/showthread.php?t=1225 >> >> So, do I really need these three components for Xen to work properly? >> > > None of them are directly required by Xen.
