I was using fedora core 8 with xen 3.0.3 with one guest running windows 2003 with paravirtual drivers. Network performance was close to native performance when DOMU or DOM0 was talking to a different physical host. DOMO to DOMU is around 160 MB/sec DOMU to DOM0 is very bad. (In the order of 4 MB/sec) I was using iperf tool to test the network performance. Here are the details from ipconfig. eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:94:DC:0A inet addr:10.1.8.40 Bcast:10.1.8.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::230:48ff:fe94:dc0a/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:4611467 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:7621784 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:2270818253 (2.1 GiB) TX bytes:10060130376 (9.3 GiB) eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:94:DC:0B inet addr:10.2.8.40 Bcast:10.2.8.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::230:48ff:fe94:dc0b/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:1075344 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:2905460 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:225153662 (214.7 MiB) TX bytes:3826103962 (3.5 GiB) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:947641 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:947641 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:2663428661 (2.4 GiB) TX bytes:2663428661 (2.4 GiB) peth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:94:DC:0A inet6 addr: fe80::230:48ff:fe94:dc0a/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:87419001 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:19409916 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:124258787958 (115.7 GiB) TX bytes:7164086772 (6.6 GiB) Base address:0x2000 Memory:df220000-df240000 peth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:94:DC:0B inet6 addr: fe80::230:48ff:fe94:dc0b/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:64142215 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:18556458 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:89361796189 (83.2 GiB) TX bytes:7428279336 (6.9 GiB) Base address:0x2020 Memory:df260000-df280000 tap0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 1E:D5:03:39:05:C7 inet6 addr: fe80::1cd5:3ff:fe39:5c7/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:62362 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:500 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:10421676 (9.9 MiB) tap1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr CA:A7:06:85:F4:F0 inet6 addr: fe80::c8a7:6ff:fe85:f4f0/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:49324 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:500 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:10122139 (9.6 MiB) vif5.0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF inet6 addr: fe80::fcff:ffff:feff:ffff/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:260816 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:244983 errors:0 dropped:19 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:32 RX bytes:156234965 (148.9 MiB) TX bytes:55178918 (52.6 MiB) vif5.1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF inet6 addr: fe80::fcff:ffff:feff:ffff/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:110244 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:208175 errors:0 dropped:251 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:32 RX bytes:6974515 (6.6 MiB) TX bytes:51410151 (49.0 MiB) virbr0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00 inet addr:192.168.122.1 Bcast:192.168.122.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::200:ff:fe00:0/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:33 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:5177 (5.0 KiB) Any ideas on what is wrong?
