I''ve noticed looking through the archives on this mailing list that some of you have w2k3 running with multiple processors. For any of you that have this, which HAL are you using? We are running RHEL 5, xen 3.0.4 on a Dell Poweredge 2950. The processors support acpi, but we can''t get the acpi (uni or multi) HAL to work in windows; the install hangs after it loads all the drivers (before you choose disk partitions, etc). We were able to use the "Standard PC" which is suggested by redhat in their documentation, however that only allows one processor. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I don''t have a HVM capable machine but I know that Xen 3.1 included alot of tweaks for HVM. Just a suggestion. Re: [Xen-users] Windows Server 2003 and multiple processors
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Under Xen 3.1, I''m able to use the ACPI Multiprocessor HAL (and the uniprocessor one as well, when I only need 1 VCPU) or both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows. Under 3.0.4, I''m pretty sure I was only able to use the MPS Multiprocessor and uniprocessor HALs, along with the Standard PC HAL (although I had to play with various settings), but not any ACPI HALs. Sadly I can''t remember if this was with 32 bit or 64 bit Windows. If you need/want multiprocessor capabilities, I really do suggest upgrading to Xen 3.1. Re: [Xen-users] Windows Server 2003 and multiple processors
Thanks, We''ve noticed the same on 3.0.4; MPS HALs work, but ACPI doesn''t. Unfortunately with using RHEL 5 we don''t like to veer from the RHN packages. Hopefully redhat will release 3.1 soon as it appears there is a lot of good stuff in there. Until then we have a Fedora 7 system with 3.1 so we''ll do some testing on that. --Jason On Tue, 2007-07-17 at 13:44 +0100, Martin Goldstone wrote:> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > Under Xen 3.1, I''m able to use the ACPI Multiprocessor HAL (and the > uniprocessor one as well, when I only need 1 VCPU) or both 32 bit and 64 > bit Windows.
