I am not sure if I read this wrong but it is required to run windows client in order to use the new xen console for 3.2.99? Is there a linux or wine version being created by the opensource foks? We do not have windows running nor the desire to reinstall it on anything. Thoughts? _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Your question is about a XenSource commercial product, so the best place to get answers is on forums.xensource.com -- this list is really for the open source implementations. But, yes, it''s true that XenEnterprise 4.0 (3.2.999 is the first beta for 4.0) will include only a Windows GUI, for reasons I''m in the middle of explaining on said forums. It''s not a strategic decision, but a logistical issue. Since 4.0 uses a superset of the Xen 3.1 XenAPI -- add-ons have to do with issues like storage -- vendors and open source projects that are building XenAPI based solutions are able to apply them to most or all of the functions of managing XenEnterprise 4.0 boxes. Some of the companies/projects you may want to check out -- see http://xensource.com/partners/find_partner.html -- include ConVirt (http://xenman.sourceforge.net/), Enomaly (http://www.enomaly.com/), OpenQRM (http://www.openqrm.org/), and ToutVirtual (http://www.toutvirtual.com/) -- I''m sure there are others. -- Roger B.A. Klorese Senior Director, Product and Solutions Marketing XenSource, Inc. 8461 154th Avenue NE Redmond, WA 98052 425-202-8086 Phone 425-444-5493 Cell 425-484-2220 Fax roger@xensource.com www.xensource.com -----Original Message----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of James Ruffer Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 9:45 AM To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com Subject: [Xen-users] xen baremetal 3.2.99 console I am not sure if I read this wrong but it is required to run windows client in order to use the new xen console for 3.2.99? This list is mostly about the open source release of Xen so people here aren''t so familiar with those products; we try to answer but we don''t always know ;-) There are forums at http://forums.xensource.com that might be able to answer your question more specifically. I was under the impression that the management console for XenSource''s products was written in Java and could be run either on Windows or Linux - indeed, I thought maybe it was useable from a web browser. I vaguely recall reading about a Linux installer for it. Cheers, Mark -- Dave: Just a question. What use is a unicyle with no seat? And no pedals! The GUI for versions before the current 4.0 beta was written in Java (but does not run in a browser). For reasons I''ve explained in detail in the forums, the GUI for the upcoming version, which is now in beta, is a Windows .NET application. -- Roger B.A. Klorese Senior Director, Product and Solutions Marketing XenSource, Inc. 8461 154th Avenue NE Redmond, WA 98052 425-202-8086 Phone 425-444-5493 Cell 425-484-2220 Fax roger@xensource.com www.xensource.com -----Original Message----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] On Behalf Of Mark Williamson Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 12:06 PM To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com Cc: James Ruffer Subject: Re: [Xen-users] xen baremetal 3.2.99 console> I am not sure if I read this wrong but it is required to run windows > client in order to use the new xen console for 3.2.99? Roger, Thanks for weighing in on this, it''s good to know what''s what. James: I''m sorry my information was out of date! Roger''s explanation of what happened on the forums here: http://forums.xensource.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1112&tstart=0 So, for now it looks like you should use the "xe" command-line management tool if you want to use XenEnterprise. Hopefully future releases will include a web-based management console for graphical management. However, if you''ve got particular requirements for what you''re trying to achieve, maybe we can take this opportunity to discuss what they are and figure out a way you can achieve them in the interim, potentially using the open source tools if the XenSource ones don''t fit.
