[Xen-users] Help needed validating hardware for Xen
Hello, I could really use some help here. I have just assembled a new PC with the following components: CPU - Amd Athlon 64 x2 4200+ socket M2 Motherboard - ABIT Nvidia KN9 SLI socket M2 I have downloaded and installed Fedora Core 6 with xen 3.0.3 When I attempt to boot the xen kernel I get an immediate panic on CPU0 stating that timer does not work. I still have a chance to return the hardware if it is can not be used with xen. Please, let me know if this is a mater of adjusting some settings or I''m dealing with incompatible hardware. This is the same processor design as my FX62 that I''ve got in my system - and it works just fine.> Motherboard - ABIT Nvidia KN9 SLI socket M2I haven''t used this motherboard, so I can''t say.> > I have downloaded and installed Fedora Core 6 with xen 3.0.3 > When I attempt to boot the xen kernel I get an immediate panic on > CPU0 stating that timer does not work. > I still have a chance to return the hardware if it is can not > be used > with xen.If you add "noreboot" on the "xen.gz" line in your boot configuration (grub.conf or similar), maybe you can give us the complete error message. My guess would be that there is something wrong in the ACPI information in the BIOS, and that a BIOS-upgrade is probably going to fix the problem (assuming a new BIOS is available). -- Mats> > Please, let me know if this is a mater of adjusting some settings or > I''m dealing with incompatible hardware. > > Best regards, > > -Eugene > > _______________________________________________ > Xen-users mailing list > Xen-users@lists.xensource.com > http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users > > >_______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Eugene, I run almost the same setup: AM2 and Abit kn9 series board I use openSuSE 10.2 x86_64 with all Xen related installed. Xen boots without issues and I''ve been able to run any domU I try. I think you should double check the arch of FC6 you use. You should have good luck with i386 as long as the 686 kernel is installed. x86_64 is a sure bet. regards, Mark Yevgeniy Goldberg <thegoldberg@mac.com> wrote: Hello, I could really use some help here.
