hi all, am I right that xen doesn''t have support of smp in fully virtualized system? If I want to split 4cpu machine that some domU should have access to all cpus and some to just some, I have to use the paravirtual mode only, right? thanks for clarification -ph ___________________________________________________________ All new Yahoo! It knows about them when you start your domain0 system, even with a kernel without SMP support. You can use the config files to assign 1 or more physical & virtual cpu''s to a domU (see the config file examples). If you want to assign 2 or more virtual cpu''s to a domU, you need SMP support in the kernel you use to start that domU. For what I know, Xen should support it, and should be ''giving'' the 4 vcpu''s to the domU. Or maybe you should try vcpus=2 first. And check if your domU kernel supports SMP by using the command ''uname -a''. cheers Peter _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Fully virtualized system can run any number of CPU''s from 1 to 32.> > If I want to split 4cpu machine that some domU should have > access to all > cpus and some to just some, I have to use the paravirtual mode only, > right? No, you can use either PV or HVM mode for any of those guest (any mix you like - 1 CPU PV, 2 CPU HVM and a second 2CPU PV for example - or if you like to show someone your mega-machine without actually having one, try setting VCPUS=16 in your config file for a HVM guest, and show them the task-manager or "cat /proc/cpuinfo" - it will look like you have 16 CPU''s). -- Mats> > thanks for clarification > -ph > > > > > > ___________________________________________________________ > All new Yahoo!
