RES: [Xen-users] Is it possible that save vm without destroy?
Depending on the issue (if it has already been answered), I usually reply only to the sender to avoid list traffic. Because you are requesting the answer, I''ll post it here: Daesung complained about the VM hanging just after the TLS warning, saying that there was an error opening the console. This is what I told him: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your error seems to be related to the console opening problem, and not the tls support. Check if you have /dev/tty1 in the vm image your trying to start, and create the device if it isn''t there (using mknod). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers -- =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+ Felipe Franciosi +55-51-91230557 CPAD/HP/PUCRS Centro de Pesquisa em Alto Desempenho http://www.cpad.pucrs.br/ ozzy@cpad.pucrs.br Porto Alegre, RS - Brazil =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+ -----Mensagem original----- De: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com [mailto:xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com] Em nome de Mito Enviada em: terça-feira, 27 de junho de 2006 09:21 Para: ''Daesung Kim''; xen-users@lists.xensource.com Assunto: RE: [Xen-users] Is it possible that save vm without destroy? Hi, I also like to know the answer to the question "How to save a VM without destroying it", but this answer seems to be unrelated. Or did I miss something ? thank you in advance sebastian Am 27.06.2006 um 22:52 schrieb Felipe Franciosi:> Depending on the issue (if it has already been answered), I usually > reply > only to the sender to avoid list traffic. Hi, > And I want save vm1, but I don’t want vm1 destroy. But I command this. > [root@localhost xen]# xm save vm1 vm1.save > vm1 is destroyed… > Is it possible that save vm without destroy? what do you want to do with the saved VM later? It is worthless because Xen only saves cpu- and memory-status but does NOT make a snapshot of the current filesystem-status. So if the VM is saved but running more time, the filesystem will change and get''s out of sync with the saved cpu-/memory-status. This can cause a crash, data-corruption ... -- Chau y hasta luego, Thorolf _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

I can not see a _lot_ of applications for this, but I can imagine some... Re: [Xen-users] Is it possible that save vm without destroy?
This is true offcourse but that mostly depends upon the applications within the domU and wheter or not you use swap space. I''ve also "misused" the save-restore function alot by now insted of rebooting the domU''s in some occasions apart from snapshots. But I think there definitly is use for such a function (especially when considering backup possibilities and HA systems, which could use a restore snapshot and not having to wait until the domU has booted again)... but as with many of these risky things: put it away deeply and put hunderds of warnings with it ;-) On 6/28/06, Thorolf Godawa <nospam@godawa.de> wrote:> So if the VM is saved but running more time, the filesystem will change > and get''s out of sync with the saved cpu-/memory-status. > > This can cause a crash, data-corruption ..._______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
