After several problems with sata and kernel compiles, and ofcourse help from the list to solve it, i got the kernel compiled and xen-unstable running on Celeron D 64bit. Now xen has been setup for route network. However when i try to ping domU from dom0 it gives no responses, vice versa, ping from dom0 to domU doesn''t work. The dom0 is a centos 4.3 and domU is centos 4.3 again. I have tried many things, however network still doesn''t work.>From domU to dom0 ping gives the following error:connect: Network is unreachable Ping from dom0 to domU gives no response. Any help will be appreciated. -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
route -n looks fine on dom0. The ip address of the domU shows up in route and proper interface is showing up for the same as well. I had this same problem on the DomU to other machines. Executing dhclient got an address. You might try that, although it is, of course, an unsatisfactory long-term solution. I posted a similar question a few days ago and got a pointer to: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenNetworking with a suggest to execute: echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward I did that, but did not find it helped; however, it might work for you. Dear Bernard, Thanks for the reply. However using the following echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward is not advisable in a routed network. Since in this case the dom0 acts as a router for the domU. In my case i can''t ping from dom0 to domU and vice versa. On 6/4/06, Bernard Golden <bgolden@navicasoft.com> wrote:> > I had this same problem on the DomU to other machines. Hi Robert, Thanks for the reply. That doc is for a bridged network. I am working on routed network. If i manually try to add a route to the default gw in domU, i get the following: route add default gw x.x.x.x SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable Here x.x.x.x is my dom0 since it will act as a gateway / router for my domU. Can someone please point out what can be done to solve this ? -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
I tried to search google / mailing lists with the errors i recieved, however didn''t find much help in resolving the problem. Anyone else has seen this problem and has a solution for this ? -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Networking still down in domU. Will move to bridging and see if it helps in making networking work. -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Bridging also has the same problem. Networking is not working. Cannot ping dom0 -> domU Cannot ping domU -> dom0 :(( -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
In the bridge setup, i can see the TX bytes rising for the vif interface of the domU. Isn''t this strange ? vif6.0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FE:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF inet6 addr: fe80::fcff:ffff:feff:ffff/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:494 errors:0 dropped:20 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:720 (720.0 b) TX bytes:50798 (49.6 KiB) The TX bytes are increasing by 1 bytes every second. Any ideas why this could be happening ? -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Similarly the RX bytes inside domU are increasing, infact they are and should be the same as on dom0. I don''t recall seeing something like this earlier. Can anyone please clarify. The system is running the latest unstable in bridge mode (since i couldn''t get route working, i thought of trying bridge) On 6/5/06, Anand Gupta <xen.mails@gmail.com> wrote:> > In the bridge setup, i can see the TX bytes rising for the vif interface > of the domU. Is this what you are recommending ethtool -K tx off On 6/5/06, Robert Welz <welz@fixe-post.de> wrote:> > > There was a posting recently (from me ;) concerning how to switch off tx > checksum offloading. > Does the network work then? >Does this need to be done on the dom0 ? or domU ? -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
Ok i tried that on each interface in dom0 as well as domU, however when i try to ping the dom0 from domU i get the same error: connect: Network is unreachable When trying to ping the domU from dom0, it just won''t give any response. Finally network worked inside domU. DomU can now be accessed from outside the host machine. The problem was with the gateway for domU. I had placed the wrong gateway information. -- regards, Anand Gupta _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
I don''t mind, but you should make shure not to post that many mailings for one problem. There are people with small bandwidth downloading many unneccessary postings. But congratulitions, you solved the hard part of xen. Robert _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Re: OT: Netiquette Re: [Xen-users] networking not working
Dear Robert, Whatever i was discovering, i was posting simulatneously, whether it was anyones comments, possible solutions etc. I am sorry if it caused any problems with you / anyone else. Just got too much desperate with the networking issue. Even right now, bridge works, routed network doesn''t. Probably since both dom0 and domU are in different subnets. And i don''t know anything which can resolve it. I have other xen servers also running, however this is the first one on x86_64 arch. All of them have routed network with domU having their ips on same subnet. This was a specific case where i got stuck. Not sure but i still would like to get the routed network working for this xen server too. P.S. Probably you should get ready to see more mails from me ;) On 6/5/06, Robert Welz <welz@fixe-post.de> wrote:> > I don''t mind, but you should make shure not to post that many mailings > for one problem.
