Hello All, We have developed an in-house control panel for Xen. I would like to know what kind of interest there is for this panel and the answer to the question of what we should do with it. This is not vaporware, but it is operational at this point. It runs on the LAMP platform and is managing our farm. Current Features 1. Traffic monitoring for each domU(inbound/outbound). 2. CPU monitoring for each dom0. 3. Location service for each domU if you have multiple dom0''s. 4. Rapid build of dom0''s from with gfs. (I don''t know if this will ever be released as we have proprietary information in this feature) 5. Support for live migration from webpage. 6. Support for provisioning of new domU''s from web interface. We are currently expanding this feature and it will allow selection of os images and configuration of the domU''s. 7. Growing of domU''s file systems on GFS from a web interface. 8. Health monitor of the farm, you can see what is running on each dom0. 9. This is targeted for a hosting company, but can be targeted for almost any application. 10. Support for restarting, starting and destroying domU''s. Questions 1. Is there any interest in this, and if so what level of interest? 2. I am considering if I should open source these or if they should be left closed source and maybe on a subscription basis only. The investment in time and money has been great, and the competition would use this software as well. 3. How should it be marketed and if it is what would be a fair price? 4. Should I develop a Xen in a box type of system? We have done this and can bring a stable Xen/GFS farm online in about three hours. 5. What other features does everyone want on this? Thanks in Advance, Linn _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

If you''re going for a long term fancy product perhaps automating live migration among Dom0''s. Thanks a lot. On reading the script i realised its exactly the same way i have been trying to get my traffic results :) ifconfig -a vm01 | grep ''RX bytes'' | cut -d : -f 2 | cut -d '' '' -f 1 Above vm01 being my interface. I was trying to store all these values in a mysql db and then trying to calculate the entire transfer done by a domU. However i was facing problems when it was coming to calculate the entire totals. Seeing your script has solved some of my doubts which i had. I will try to merge both your and mine together and see how it comes up. Btw my vm''s have personal names and hence the same interfaces. I am also trying to write an interface through which customers can login and check their usage. Thanks for giving the script and helping me. If you don''t mind can i ask any other scripts you have written for working with Xen ? I have been working on a control panel myself for my customers to get them to use xen based vds. The panel will allow them to load any os image etc. The panel will be cluster ready (meaning can handle multiple dom0''s). Right now i was working on traffic QoS on the domU''s to ensure all domains get fair share of the traffic. exactly 5 minutes before i recognized that my script is buggy... it creates a new file after reboot.. please remove line 77/78 with data_filebecause of this there will be made everytime a new file. Thank you sure, you can get all I have or I can write someting for you... but I think it may not be much work to add all values of a mysql-database or what is your problem ? in php, this are some lines, I think ? stephan Am Mittwoch, 15. Hi, i succesafully got xen3 running on FC4. I do have 3 Domains up and running. When i try to install IBM´s db2 i get an Error which probably occurs cause of Xen. The error is: cdDB2-8.1-RuntimeSetup/db2/linux/install/db2jinst: line 130: 2699 Segmentation fault $JAVA_PATH/$JAVA_INTERPRETER $JAVA_OPTIONS -cp $JAVA_CLASSPATH $DB2SetupRun "$@" 2>/tmp/db2setup.err.running Also i still get that warning *************************************************************** *************************************************************** ** WARNING: Currently emulating unsupported memory accesses ** ** in /lib/tls glibc libraries. Then, for your problem: hotplug is statically linked, just removing the (dynamic) tls library won''t fix things, the application needs to be recompiled. Since that topic pops up again and again, it would be nice if the xen devels would add a sentence to the warning above, something like "If you already removed the TLS library, the offending application probably needs to be recompiled" /Ernst _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users
It seems, that you try to install DB2 on an unsupported OS version. please enter: export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 or export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 before you start the installer. I would say to release it open source since you are after all using Xen which has required huge amounts of time and money but remains open source. Xen has lots of competition too. How much money do you think you would make from this service? I think you''d probably make very little in the end as someone else will probably release a similar project in place of this one if it''s not to be made open source. It''s up to you, but I think your project stands a better chance of improving and being used if it''s OSS. Look at the Xen community and ask yourself if anyone would use it as a subscription service?
