I''ve downloaded the laura debian Xen distro, and installed it, and now when I try to boot it, it comes up with "CPU0 fried", and some words above it saying that it can''t get enough memory. Any ideas? Thanks Wesley Parish -- Clinersterton beademung, with all of love - RIP James Blish ----- Mau e ki, he aha te mea nui? You ask, what is the most important thing? Particularly, what did you pass for the ''dom0_mem='' argument to the hypervisor itself? Did it start outputting Linux kernel boot messages, or was it just Xen boot messages? How much memory does the machine in question have installed? -- Derrik Pates demon@devrandom.net _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

How much memory does > the machine in question have installed? No, I haven''t done that yet. I didn''t think it was necessary. They weren''t Linux boot messages, so they would''ve been Xen. The machine has 1 GB installed. That''s why it puzzled me - 1 GB''s plenty memory, and it runs the XenDemoCD like a dream. I''ve run two instances of FreeBSD, two of NetBSD, and three of XenDebian without any problem. Oh, well, I''ve got several liveCDs handy - I can get it fixed without any problem. You don''t need a live CD for that. -- Derrik Pates demon@devrandom.net _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

You don''t need a live CD for that.Yeah, do that. The out of memory error has been know to occur because of a) dom0_mem set wrong and b) initrd weirdness (I can''t remember the details but it''s in the mailing list archives somewhere). It shouldn''t be difficult to fix once you''ve figured out which it is, anyhow. Oh, and your CPU0 isn''t fried, it''s just "toast" :-) Cheers, Mark _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

It can be quite unnerving though, when you''ve had a CPU (hardware) fry on you once previously. I checked the hardware was still working by installing Solaris 10 on another hard drive and running it for a good long while. So that doesn''t bother me any more.> > Cheers, > Mark ><snip> Wesley Parish -- Clinersterton beademung, with all of love - RIP James Blish ----- Mau e ki, he aha te mea nui? So that doesn''t bother me any more.Yeah, it happened to me back in the dark ages pre-1.0 when I booted Xen for the first time. I think the panic message is now less alarming, which is probably good for new users but I do rather miss the old message ;-) I''m impressed you actually have had a CPU fry, though... I had a Slot 1 CPU fall out (partially) for no reason whilst I was working. Strange... The framebuffer stays up, the last bit of the MP3 track kept playing from the buffer... It wasn''t happy on reboot, though! Cheers, Mark _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

When I first got Linux (SLS 1.0 with linux 0.99pl?? - now a disk image at the bochs sourceforge site) I nearly panicked when it came to setting up the hard drive for installation. MS DOS 5.0 was nothing like this! Even OS/2 2.0 was simpler and less technical. Always a first time, eh?!? After that, I felt there was very little anyone could pull in the computer field that could phaze me!> > I''m impressed you actually have had a CPU fry, though... It wasn''t happy on reboot, though!Comes of misunderstanding instructions. I''d go ahold of a whole new motherboard with attendant pieces, and was keen to put the silly thing together by myself, without any instructions. I thought I had to manually adjust the switches. And overclocking wasn''t covered by the warranty! Even inadvertent! Real bummer!> > Cheers, > Mark >Wesley Parish -- Clinersterton beademung, with all of love - RIP James Blish ----- Mau e ki, he aha te mea nui? You ask, what is the most important thing?
