I tried out the program desktopsnowok which causes it to snow on your desktop. It installed and launched fine. Though little grey pixelated squares did start to drift across my screen. I don't know who dropped their bucket of paper machet but that definitely wasn't snow. What can I do to fix that stupid little glitch?
