Every time I download and try to install through crossover games, I get this same error, I made sure to use winetricks to download ie6, vcrun2005, and wininet. The error is "the program clientupdate.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienence". Does anyone have experience getting this to run through just wine, or crossover games? is there a fix for this error message?

Ok, could anyone give me a guide or tips or something on just installing it through wine?

Ok I tried to install it a couple of times but the same message keeps popping up and using just wine I don't get a shortcut to bring up the client again so it can update I only get one so I can redo the installation (without redownloading). I've also tried redownloading it, here is the error message I get, and the readout from the terminal after the error message pops up. I'll post what the terminal error was later, does anyone have a solution? "The program ClientUpdate.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." [/code]
Ok I downloaded the latest development version of wine 1.3.11 as 1.3.6 (or 1.3.8) was supposedly supposed to fix the clientupdate.exe crash problem and before I was running 1.2.2. Hopefully it helps.
Nothing has worked, I tried installing it through wine, tried installing a new version of wine, tried it with crossover games, tried it with wine bottler, is there anything left to try it with? I really want to get this game to work!!!
Thanks I'll do that, afterwards do I have to install wine again or will it automatically change it.
Ok so I followed the steps you told me to do and I reinstalled wine, then I deleted the old Runes of Magic file and reinstalled that, same error and in the Terminal box there were these errors. I followed your directions, is there something else I need to do to enable OpenGl? Code: err:wgl:has_opengl Failed to load libGL: dlopen(libGL.1.dylib, 266): image not found err:wgl:has_opengl OpenGL support is disabled. err:d3d_caps:WineD3D_CreateFakeGLContext Can't find a suitable iPixelFormat. err:d3d:InitAdapters Failed to get a gl context for default adapter Direct3D9 is not available without OpenGL.
So every time I open wine or just once?

Theres no way to just be able to call it once? That seems like it might get annoying after awhile, but it seems to have done the trick. Thanks for all the help!!!
Everything worked great, got it all patched up no crashes, but now when I click the start game button it pops up an error message saying "file not found". No errors in the Terminal.
Ok new error, when patching the game a program called other.exe is called (not anywhere in the game files) but an error occurs and it has to close, this leads to the game thinking and saying that the patch is installed (yet when it goes to match against the server version, its not the right version. Here's the stuff from the Terminal, any help would be greatly appreciated!!! So would I just do "./configure -gstabs" from my wine source? (like when I used "./configure" to install wine?). Thanks.

If you doubt it, I can send you screen shots where the library files are not found. This is also true of the Fink build, so I'm not alone with the problem. Again, this is weird and maybe it is my system and not Wine. However, adding the line should not hurt anything. James McKenzie
Ok so I deleted wine and everything, then I reinstalled with the configuration you posted. I ran the setup for RoM and everthing was working, after it had finished installing and chose to not automatically go to the patch screen, I inputed the three commands you guys gave me to fix the errors that were there and now it gives me an error when I try to start up the Client, so I deleted the RoM folder and decided to reinstall, I went to the install file but it's giving me the same error. This is the error in the Terminal. What's wrong? Code: Astrauks-MacBook-Pro:RoMFull Astrauk$ wine ROMSetup.exe Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded. Unknown error (998). err:systray:initialize_systray Could not create tray window Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded. Unknown error (998). I looked in there and I didn't see anything that said wether it was found or not. Do you know where it might be in the config.log that would say that. Should I post the config.log somewhere and provide a link here?
ever since I installed xquartz it starts instead of x11 is that a problem?
Ok so using XQuartz version of Terminal got rid of those errors and everythings working fine, I'll go reinstall the game, then try patching it and post the Terminal output here since I've configured wine with the CFLAGS -gstab thingy.

Use DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH and see the dynamic linker manpage (man dyld) for library search order.I'll do so. In the meantime, I'll have to backup the system and find my Snow Leopard disks :) I really would like to do a full clean out anyway for various reasons. Have to take a long vacation to get everything proper and to reload Fink and its dependencies. Not enough hours in the day to make it work. BTW, we could have a private conversation on this rather than clutter up the Wine Forums and vitamin would appreciate it. James McKenzie
So I followed rwoodsmalls page and instructions and everything and it's downloading and installing now, but how do I do the CFLAGS thing if it's not compiling from a source? Is there a diffferent command for it or something? or does it come pre-done?
Yeah I installed all the necessary winetricks. I just don't understand why the heck it won't work.

Ok here's the link to the pastebin of the entire Terminal Log. http://pastebin.com/bGs1MMqH
These are the steps i followed, at least the ones i remember. i was struggling with the whole problem for a while: 1) Patch manually as recommended in RoM forums: https://forum.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=79267 2) After that, client is updated but clientupdate.exe still crashes so i upgraded wine to 1.3, and winetricks to last update so i could install winetricks ie7. Game works again now!! Good luck!
