The FAQ page has a link at the top on how to run from the terminal and how to generate a log file. James McKenzie

Before I start, let me just say that on this machine I have successfully got Directx9.0c installed. dxdiag runs, and DirectX games run just fine.. All under Wine 1.0. All these errors are found after doing the exact same process to install Dx9 in Wine 1.2 DXSETUP.exe: Direct X just dies with an error "DirectX is already at a higher level". When deleting lots of DLLs, it crashes halfway through the install with an "Unknown exception". dxdiag.exe : just dies silently when trying to run Direct3D test (solved in wine1.0 by changing the "ddrawex.dll to builtin, contrary to all the FAQs). Warcraft3 : silent death.. Hangs, I have to Kill -9 WINE :( Unreal Tournament: D3D death Rosetta Stone: Just won't start. Exits immediately. Pharaoh : Starts, gets past the intro movie and then hangs. I have to Kill WINE.EXE to stop it. I mainly use Wine to play old games.. When I downgrade to wine1.0, with NO other change, all the games and apps start working.

Apparently not. I wanted you to run the programs from a terminal session and provide a log file back to us so we could provide further assistance. Windows does this naturally, and this is a 'to do' project for Wine. However, the process is described in the Wine FAQ on how to run a program in a terminal session and to produce a log file. Upload the log file to a site like pastebin.com and then provide us with the URL. Also, PLEASE INSTALL TO A FRESH WINE PREFIX. There are many, many changes between Wine 1.0.1 and 1.2-rc2 that cause things to break if you attempt to use an old wine prefix with the new wine (sort of what happens when you put new wine in an old wineskin, it bursts, believe me.) Please do run the programs and create log files so we can look at them. Thank you. James McKenzie
A lot of things crash with err:winedevice:ServiceMain driver L"LMIInfo" failed to load I just re-upgraded to Wine1.2 and dxdiag now gives.... err:winedevice:ServiceMain driver L"LMIInfo" failed to load wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\system32\\dxdiag.exe": Module not found nick at nick-laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32$ err:menubuilder:WinMain unknown option -a err:menubuilder:WinMain unknown option -r
Delete or rename ~/.wine and reinstall your games. Do not install directx; Wine has its own implementation, and installing native is more likely to cause problems than solve them. None of the AppDB entries for the games you mentioned say anything about needing native dlls.
