Yeah, I'm having the same problem. Here's a log with WINEDEBUG=warn+all (no useful output otherwise): http://pastebin.com/bYQgpCNK

Also tried with winetricks in a fresh prefix. Attempting to make a new account brings on the crash most quickly, which occurs almost instantly when the EULA appears. I've never seen this steam version running under windows, but the EULA appears as a black screen, which could be another symptom.
I get this same error. Steam installs fine but doesn't run. I can the silhouette of the login/eula (im not sure which it is) window in the workspace preview in the bottom right, but the window never actually spawns.
Rebuilt ".wine" with default settings, on ubuntu 10.04 and nvidia driver 195.36.15. installed by using "wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi". tried both as windows xp and windows 7. Still no difference.
Does it have the same terminal output? News has hit that a Linux native version of Steam will be coming soon; getting Steam itself to work on Wine might not be necessary at that point anymore.
this is the terminal output i get just running it with wine Code: [martin at martin Steam]$ wine ./Steam.exe CellID: Fetching server list from CSDS. . . fixme:process:SetProcessShutdownParameters (00000100, 00000000): partial stub. fixme:threadpool:RtlQueueWorkItem Flags 0x4 not supported fixme:shell:IsUserAdmin stub CellID: CSDS returned 164 servers. CellID: Connect to 117.121.248.123:27031 took 312 MS CellID: Nothing beat our old best time of 16 MS and it just repeats that last bit about connecting over and over as long as I keep the process alive
> The end of summer.Taking into account "valve time" and Phoronix's lack of public sources, and I wouldn't take that date as being a certainty. I am cautiously optimistic, though, and I do feel that native linux steam and source games will be playable by the end of this year, and probably a lot earlier.
