After a year and a half of using Linux Mint, I have decided as a business I should just use windows. There is no good business accounting package for Linux, and there is no windoze alternative that works in Wine. I ended up using Sun Virtual box, but what is the point in that? You still end up with native windoze with all it vulnerabilities, spies, viruses and Trojans, etc. Then you end up jumping between the VM and Linux, and it just is not worth the hassle any more. I have donated $100s to Wine, and other Linux products. I am going to miss Linux, but there is nothing to make me want to stay, or be bothered with dual booting. Thanks for all your efforts. Bob :(
rdonnelly. Lack of work on lots of open source accountancy programs have caused the problems you are talking about. There are a few commercial accountancy packages for linux. I know quite a few companines when I have put the cross platform commercial accountancy packages on table they find no problems with them when they are on windows or linux. Ie going to Linux might not suit you now. Big important but. You don't really want to have to pay for accountancy software forever. So even after returning to windows stay in the open source accountancy developments.
Never mind, I reconsidered, allowing windoze to run my PC would be a joke, and not to mention all the overhead with spy scans, antivirus, etc. I will have to make a sacrifice either way, so I think I will stay with Linux, and just deal with Vbox, as I doubt I will ever be able to run a full featured windoze accounting app through wine. Keep in mind, that the companies that write these apps include lots of features to keep state, local, and federal taxes in an easy to use format. Not something you would get in a Linux app that was made for international use. Then again, with the future of Cloud computing, windoze may become even less of a necessary evil in the near future.
