[Wine] Sound issue with either WINE or World of Warcraft...
I'm having an issue with my 5.1 surround sound system in World of Warcraft, but I don't know if it's a problem with WINE or with WoW. Either WINE or WoW is swapping my front and rear channels, so, for example, when someone runs past me from behind in WoW, it sounds like they're coming from ahead of me. The left and right channels are fine. During casual play, it's not much of an issue, but in dungeons and battlegrounds, it can be VERY disorienting. I've checked my system's speaker assignments using: Code: $ speaker-test -t wave -c 6; And all the speakers are properly assigned, and all of the native linux apps are working properly as well. I've tried to determine if this is a WoW or WINE issue, but I couldn't find any Windows-based tools that work the way speaker-test does. I don't have any other regularly-used windows applications that output 5.1 surround sound installed in WINE, so if it is just WoW flipping the channels and nobody knows or can find a way to set the channels right for just WoW, I would not mind completely remapping WINE's speaker assignments. Basicly this boils down to 2 questions: 1. How can I remap the speakers for just WoW? 2. How can I remap the speakers for WINE, but NOT the whole system? If it matters at all, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit, kernel version: 2.6.31-16-generic-pae. Thank you, Lupusnoctu

[Wine] Re: Sound issue with either WINE or World of Warcraft...
After hours of extensive research, I found this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8512509 I tried it, still haven't had much luck, so now I'm further documenting my attempts at both forums. lupusnoctu @ http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8512509#post8512509 wrote:> Thank you for the guide. It ALMOST helped me. lol. I have it set up with World of Warcraft via WINE, but I still can't get it right. I've explained my issue in detail at http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=7105 and will be copying this post over to that thread. > > Using this guide, I've tried remapping several different ways, but I just can't seem to get it right... Leaving the front/rear-left/right alone, but swapping center/lfe to lfe/center produced the proper change... I was thinking that maybe either WINE or WoW was thinking lfe was rear-center, but they're not, so that's good. I put it back to center/lfe. > > I then tried physically unplugging all channels except center/lfe from from the soundcard. Coming out of the center, I heard what was behind me, and LFE was producing lf sound from all directions, as it should. This made me think that maybe WoW thinks there is a rear-center and front-center, and has the two swapped. > > I then plugged everything back in and tried the following and there was no change... > > Code: > master_channel_map=front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,center,lfe channel_map=front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,rear-center,lfe > > > and > > Code: > master_channel_map=front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe channel_map=front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,rear-center,lfe > > > > I'm out of ideas. Please help. > > EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I tried swapping front/rear-left/right to rear/front-left/right and confirmed that it's just the center channel that's messed up. >Feel free to respond on either thread.
