just installed wine a few days ago. have a few games running just fine. trying to get F.E.A.R. running. when i try to start it takes about 2 seconds and i get the fear.exe has encountered problem and needs to close window. tried to start it from console, same thing. added &> log.txt to the command. same thing. when i close the fear.exe problem window the debug info scrolls past in the console. but i can't scroll up to read it. so i check the log.txt.it creates the log .txt but it's empty. since i can't read the errors i don't know how to fix it. any idea how to get the debug info into a log? i'm using arch linux, with an amd 4800,2 nvidia 8800gtx vid cards in sli and wine version 1.1.32-1. any help would be greatly appreciated.

tried that. tried both at same time and stdout and stderr separately. it creates the file but they are empty. in the console the info scrolls by too fast to read and you can't scroll back up. i can read the last 20 or 25 lines in the console, but that doesn't have what i need. since the data is there i don't understand why it won't log it.
You can usually extend the amount of lines that are remembered in a console, so you can scroll up a lot further (ex. 3000 lines instead of the usual 500 lines). Try that?
"c:\program files\sierra\fear\fear.exe" &> log.txt
thank you martin. think i understand. fairly new to linux and some of these commands and the proper context confuse me. that was what was shown on the FAQ's to get a debug log. stdout still is empty but errlog.txt has a lot in it. thank you.

See "man bash". Martin Gregorie wrote:> wine "c:\program files\sierra\fear\fear.exe" 2>&1 >logfile.txtThis _is_ wrong. stderr to stdout redirection should go after stdout to file redirection eg: Code: wine "c:\program files\sierra\fear\fear.exe" >logfile.txt 2>&1
"c:\program files\sierra\fear\fear.exe" >log.txt 2>errlog.txt gives me an empty log.txt file. errlog.txt gives me data but i don't know what to do with it. from my terminal, not the wine console i get this after executing the command in wine console .fixme:ntdll:server_ioctl_file Unsupported ioctl 2d0c04 (device=2d access=0 func=301 method=0) wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0xa23ba3 (thread 0022), starting debugger... the fixme's should be followed by some errors that would probably help me but that is all i get. so for now i'm stumped .
