After downloading the torrent for WAR Beta, I'm trying to open "setup.exe" with Wine. Almost immediately this error message is given: Code: Warhammer installer requires later DirectX components than are installed. Warhammer Installer will now exit. Don't panic, you will be brought to Microsoft's DirectX page for a Web Install of the lastest DirectX. Please rerun the Warhammer Installer after DirectX Installation. Anyone had any luck running WAR Beta with Wine? I'd really like to be able to enjoy the Preview weekend that starts tomorrow :D.
I just gave it a go. get winetricks and install gecko + directx9 run setup and patch or (like me) copy off your windows partition (I was in closed beta playing on windows) and run it. It runs but cannot find any servers, could be because they are all down getting ready for preview weekend though. I will try in windows shortly to check if the behaviour is the same On Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 11:19 AM, Armenius <wineforum-user at winehq.org> wrote:> After downloading the torrent for WAR Beta, I'm trying to open "setup.exe" with Wine. Thanks! I was able to run setup.exe, but when I attempted to run WAR an error message displayed with: Code: The patch client was unable to retrieve the file [patcher.prod.sig] from the patch server. Please try the patch operation again in a short while. :(
I did get that error the first time, copy the dll file i mentioned and I think it will get past it Tried in windows and the servers are indeed down still :( Post back any other progress as I am away this weekend and will miss the preview weekend, be keen for open beta! Not sure on alternate patch downloads as you have to login before patch fpr WAR. And since it is still in Beta I am 100% sure there is no alternative at this time I was away all weekend so missed out on preview weekend. Servers are down now so I do not know if they will stay that way until Open Beta? Frustrating...Are you running Ubuntu by any chance? I'm probably getting the same problem as you: If I go into the wine settings window and turn on the Virtual Desktop. Then run "wine warpatch.exe" the virtual desktop will load but no patcher. If you single click the close button "X", the patcher login window will appear, then disappear without entering anything into it after ~20 seconds. I guess clicking the close button is breaking a loop/deadlock which is stopping the GUI from displaying, but only to make the app close in a few seconds.
