If you have been using wine for a long time, you might try using a fresh .wine directory. If all else fails, post a note here with the name of the app, the version of wine, and the symptom ("e.g. installer aborted after first dialog"). - Dan

Supposedly the demo http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/rometotalwar/download_6105478.html ? works once you jump through that and perhaps some other hoops.
