[Wine] Interesting problem getting wine onto my computer
I live in Bangladesh and have just installed Ubuntu dapper drake onto my shiny new desktop. The village where I live has no land lines or broad band so I connect to the internet through my old laptop using a GPRS mobile phone and Nokia PC suite run on Windows XP. I want to download wine onto my new computer so I can run PC suite and can continue accessing the internet via mobile but using Ubuntu. However, I cannot run the internet on Ubuntu until I install wine and PC suite. Is it possible to download wine from an internet cafe onto a flash drive and then get ubuntu to load wine from the flash drive? If so, could some-one explain it in REALLY simple terms?

Unless you use a serial port (or a pseudo-serial IR port), the Nokia PC Suite won't do you much good. There are native solutions for using GPRS with linux. Thanks Daniel, I forgot to say that we currently connect the mobile to our laptop with a DKU5 data cable and plan to do the same our Ubuntu desktop. What are the native solutions for using GPRS with Linux (we looked at GPRSEC but it does not support any Bangladesh mobile communications providers) and how do you get the PC to recognise the phone and cable, if you use them?

However, from what I can see you just need to load the right drivers so your mobile can be used as a modem, from which point on you just need to set up ppp. Daniel P.S. Thinking about it again, the Nokia PC Suite could not possibly help you. -- Read the Wine FAQ: http://winehq.org/site/docs/wine-faq/index Read the Wine User Guide: http://winehq.org/site/docs/wineusr-guide/index When you post: Which wine version? Thanks again Daniel. But where do we get the drivers from?
