trying to superimpose a line plot onto a histogram
Hello, I'm trying to superimpose a line plot onto a histogram but I'm not having any luck. I've attached the dataset. What I did was: > hist(data, freq=F) Now I'm trying to superimpose the following points with a line connecting them onto the histogram: x y 100 0.535665393824959 200 0.212744329736556 300 0.084493324...

Ntconfig.pol policies not applied immediatly after been read
hi, My NTconfig.pol file into \\netlogon share seems to be good... in the logs the file is readed with no problem at my user logon. The strange think I have is that the policy I've made is applied if my user loggon onto a windows 2003 server we have for testing purpose ! (If I loggon first onto my win2k machine, the policy is not applied ...) logging after onto my win2k computer takes advantage of the policy made before. I can't explain myself what is happening there, strange ... what could be the differenc...

can we map windows folder onto unix
Hello, Does anyone on this list know of any utilities that enables mapping windows folder onto Unix machine? I am going to do the migration of our intranet site from IIS to Apache in Linux. As the intranet content is over 15Gig, I need to migrate in a phase wise manner. So if I can run web server on linux serving the files from the old intranet box, this would help. Any ideas are welcome. Th...

Performance Question: Lots of Small Files vs One Large File
In an architecture where we have Samba running on RHEL exposing shares to Windows, when we have 1 large 1GB file, the write performance to storage is very fast, even over distances of 5000 miles. However, even writes to local Samba servers, with 100 10MB files being copied onto a shared drive, Windows Explorer is MUCH slower. I don't know if it's really Samba, but more than likely Windows. Does anyone on channel have experience with copying multiple small files onto shares? Are there any ways to make copying files onto a share faster? Thanks -- BOB BUCK SENIO...

Help with file locking
Hello; We are working on an application that needs to grab files put onto an ext3 filesystem as soon as they are written. We've looked at lsof, and other tools, and are having troubles finding just the right mechanism to tell when a file has been completely written and the other process has closed the file. In most cases it will be Samba users putting the files ont...

How to mount WindowsNT disks onto Solaris workstation
...agement and training for the conservation of wildlife in India. We have a GIS and Remote Sensing laboratory having four Sun workstations on Solaris 7 and two Pentium 4 workstations on Windows NT 4.0 are installed. We have been using Samba software to share the hard disk drives of Sun workstations onto Windows NT workstations. I was wondering if it is possible using Samba to do this the other way round i.e. share hard disk drives of Windows NT workstations onto Sun workstations. If yes, then how to do it? I would greatly appreciate if I get a response to my above query. Regards. Rajesh Thapa...

C++: Appending Values onto an R-Vector.
...n a few days ago, but maybe it got lost because of the code I included with it. I'm having a problem using the SET_LENGTH() macro in an R extension I'm writing in C++. In a function within the extension I use SET_LENGTH() to resize R vectors so as to allow the concatenation of single values onto the vectors -- it's a "push back" function to append values onto the end of a vector. However, when I use this function to push back a large number of values one at a time, Rgui.exe (I'm working with R 1.8.1 in Windows XP) crashes from an Access Violation; if, however, I pre-alloc...

3D confidence ellipsoid with ellipse projections onto 2D plane
I have a 3xN matrix of parameters obtained from N regressions where the 3 parameters are jointly statistically significant. I would like to reproduce a 3D confidence ellipsoid projecting 2D ellipses onto the XY plane as in Figure 5.2 in this text<http://books.google.com/books?id=PMeJGeXA09EC&pg=PA172&dq=confidence+ellipsoid&hl=en&sa=X&ei=oWQxT4OgBYLSiALW85WtAw&ved=0CEIQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=confidence%20ellipsoid&f=false> . Is this possible using some combination...

Interesting problem getting wine onto my computer
I live in Bangladesh and have just installed Ubuntu dapper drake onto my shiny new desktop. The village where I live has no land lines or broad band so I connect to the internet through my old laptop using a GPRS mobile phone and Nokia PC suite run on Windows XP. I want to download wine onto my new computer so I can run PC suite and can continue accessing the inter...

in R when I get negative adjusted R^2 using "lm", what might be the problem?
This is a linear regression of Y onto factors... If I take log of Y, and regress onto the factors, I got: Multiple R-squared: 0.4023, Adjusted R-squared: 0.2731 If I don't take log of Y, and directly regress Y onto the factors, I got: Multiple R-squared: 0.1807, Adjusted R-squared: -0.001112 Is this negative adjusted R...

paste first row string onto every string in column

The data looks like this: > df V1 V2 V3 V4 1 DPA1* DPA1* DPB1* DPB1* 2 0103 0104 0401 0601 3 0103 0103 0301 0402 . . and what I want is this: >dfnew V1 V2 V3 V4 1 DPA1* DPA1* DPB1* DPB1* 2 DPA1...

Installing Cent OS from a usb flash drive
...ately, the machine was missing a lot of the stuff that would've come with it brand new, mainly the usb cdrom drive. Currently, I'm running Fedora on it, and I installed it using a usb flash drive with the help of a program called unetbootin(Probably not spelled right). to load the ISO onto the USB drive. I've successfully used the same program to load the Cent OS live cd onto a flash drive, and I've run it on the machine. Now, is there a way that I can install cent os onto the machine by way of the usb flash drive? I've tried the network install route, and didn'...

C7 Mate - files suddenly moved back onto desktop
...esktop to work with them, then cut-and-pastes the file to put it into a folder when she's done. This morning she has seven files on her desktop that she has worked on over the course of the past week. They have suddenly, overnight, moved out of the folders that she had put them into and moved onto her desktop! They are no longer in the folders that she put them into. I told her to log out and log back in since I'm guessing that the Caja file manager may be somehow at fault. Does anyone have any ideas about what else it could be? Some kind of cross-linking on her hard drive? -- ME...

Drawing (lon, lat) coordinates onto the image of a world
Given a set of latitude and longitude coordinates pairs (stored in variables "latitudevals" and "longitudevals"), I would like to plot them onto the image of a equirectangular world map. I would like to plot each coordinate pair with a red circle, if possible. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I go about doing this, whether using R or using another program like Google maps?   Thank you, Steve [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Same machine but different users?!?! One for the books?
...d a few times in the smb news group, but with no luck. Please, someone help! My setup: samba 1.9.18p8 running on a SCO Unix 5.0.4 machine called WORK (my smb.conf file follows at the end) NT 4.0 Server and workstations with a domain called TRIAL. My problem: I had one user (JOE) that could log onto his machine's domain (NT workstation machine called JUNK) and then log onto the samba server fine. However, when he would log onto our domain (TRIAL), then the samba server would keep asking him for a password. If I tried to log onto the samba server using any other login name while he wa...

map points from scatterplot3d onto 2d fitted plane
...my graph fall in a plane. Following the example 5 from 3D scatter plot (below) I have fitted a regression plane. Now what I would like to do is a rotation so that my new co-ordinate system is about the fitted plane (by finding the normal to the plane using crossprod?) and then map the data points onto this plane. I played with the function xyz.convert from s3d but i think this is mapping to the xy plane whereas i would like to map onto my fitted plane. Is there a package/function that can help me do this that I have missed? or does anyone have any suggestions / sample code to get me started in...
