I've submitted a bug on this issue, but I'm hoping to find a
workaround that may help resolve the bug or get me to where I want to
be - racing this game.
Wine 0.9.22-9ubuntu3 (edgy)
Installed on Ubuntu - Edgy Eft (2.6.17-10-generic)
I did not compile this, installed as a package via Ubuntu's App
Manager
I don't use Windows with wine
Application: NASCAR 2003 (CD Installed version, no patches or mods)
Command line: wine NR2003.exe
Behavior: The game starts with the intro movie correctly. The sound
seems to "repeat" - this is mainly the clicks" and audio feedback
to
making choices. I can make the game "lock up" by clicking on menu
choices as I enter the game. The sound just repeats over and over and
never seems to get better. The sounds do sound correct. This behavior
makes the game unplayable, as I can't even set options without the
sound locking the game up.
Interestingly, this problem seemed to lessen (very little lockup, but
still sound duplication) when I ran in debug mode to generate the
file.
Additional info:
Audio settings (from winecfg):
OSS Driver selected
Hardware Accelleration: Emulation
Default Sample Rate: 22050
Default bits: 8
Driver emulation: No
Audio device: 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio (Intel)
I noticed the following messages on the console when having this
issue:
fixme:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne problem with underrun detection
(mixlen=8072 <
primary_done=49392)
...
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x1ad5d60
[many of those repeated then...]
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0xf41a08 "?" wait timed
out in
thread 0014, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)
It's this block that makes the game unusable - the sound just repeats
over and over the same thing.
I've tried some of the other audio settings which don't seem to work.
The game does run if I disable all audio. :) Not too useful.
Is there a setting that I should be trying? Is there a driver that I
should update? 3
