Hello, I wonder if somebody has an idea what could be a reason behind this error message. I am running wine version installed as rpm for Fedora Core: wine-20041201-1fc3winehq. This actually happens for two games, one of them - fallout. I am able to run some windows apps with sound (flash player). Fallout displays initial screen and then crashes with this error message (apparently when it tries to initialize the sound subsystem). Thanks! ----------------- Error message [nick@NS ~]$ wine TransGaming_Drive/Program\ Files/Interplay/Fallout/falloutw.exe fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDraw_SetCooperativeLevel (0x4037e188)->(00010022,00000011) fixme:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8 fixme:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8 fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_DDHAL_CreatePalette stub err:wave:DSDB_MapBuffer Could not map sound device for direct access (Input/output error) err:wave:DSDB_MapBuffer Use: "HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation" in the [dsound] section of your config file. fixme:winmm:MMDRV_Exit Closing while ll-driver open ----------------- Corresponding section from the config file (/etc/wine/config) - I uncommented the line requested in this error message [dsound] ;; HEL only: Number of waveOut fragments ahead to mix in new buffers. ;"HELmargin" = "5" ;; HEL only: Number of waveOut fragments ahead to queue to driver. ;"HELqueue" = "5" ;; Max number of fragments to prebuffer ;"SndQueueMax" = "28" ;; Min number of fragments to prebuffer ;"SndQueueMin" = "12" ;; Forces emulation mode (using wave api) "HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation" ;; Sets default playback device (0 - number of devices - 1) "DefaultPlayback" = "0" ; use first device (/dev/dsp) ;"DefaultPlayback" = "1" ; use second device (/dev/dsp1) ;"DefaultPlayback" = "2" ; use third device (/dev/dsp2) ;; Sets default capture device (0 - number of devices - 1) ;"DefaultCapture" = "0" ; use first device (/dev/dsp) ;"DefaultCapture" = "1" ; use second device (/dev/dsp1) ;"DefaultCapture" = "2" ; use third device (/dev/dsp2)

You use a transgaming installation with Wine. Did you tell Wine, that all your files are not in ~/.wine than in some other location? Why do you mix up? Did you install the software with WIne or with Cedega? Regards Joachim -- "Never touch a running system! Never run a touching system? Never run a touchy system!!!"

Your config file has "HardwareAcceleration" = "Emulation" so the config file probably was not reread after the program crashed the first time. You need to run: wineserver -k to kill the wineserver or you could just logout and log back in again.

Actually I am not - I have both installed and I am just using the folder for Transgaming drive. Transgaming starts this app just fine. Joachim, I actually created another shortcut to the Transgaming drive under .wine/dosdevices folder. Is it enough to make a drive visible? I also made sure that the cdrom location is visible under the same letter through another shortcut and I tried to make a new install under wine with the same result. Another application which is the Frontier First Encounters windows port does not require any installation and it fails with the same message. It seems that it is some kind of configuration issue on my end. Thanks, Nick Joachim von Thadden wrote:>Am Mi, Jan 05, 2005 at 11:50:36 -0800 schrieb Nick: > > >>I wonder if somebody has an idea what could be a reason behind this >>error message.
